Does a great job smoothing slabs on my custom built leveler. Powered by 1 1/2 hp Porter Cable router floating on linear bearings.

Bit is definitely heavy but rather have a robust bit than a lightweight bit. it does generate more noise than other bits. it seems well balanced. have used other lower priced flattening bits and wont ever again. Was able to flatten an end grain cutting board in less time than i expected. each pass was about 1/16 inch and overlapped each pass and it worked flawlessly, no ridges, no burn marks. it does create sand like debris opposed to larger chip. you can cut on both push and pull with no concerns. after 4 cutting boards i do feel its not cutting as quickly but all that is required is to rotate the individual cutting blades. that is certainly huge bonus that i dont need to have the blade sharpened. after the 4th rotation just get a new set. will most definitely consider more bits from this company.

This is the first router bit I've bought with removable cutters and I'm very impressed. So far, I've surfaced one side of four rough cut, 8' red oak boards. There was quite a bit of material to remove, but after many passes with the router jig at about 1/32 to 1/16", the boards are flat and smooth enough to run the opposite side through my planer. And I'm still using the first edge of all the cutters! Basically, with being able to rotate the cutters to all 4 sides, it's like having 4 new router bits instead of one. This bit also runs very smoothly in my 3 hp router with very little vibration. I'm very pleased and highly recommend this bit!

PROS: Easy to use and produces fairly smooth results on soft and hard woods, also dado's slots well if that's the exact thickness you need (no adjustment for dado slotting), well made and machined solid one piece metal billet bit, includes wrench for removing, rotating and replacing multi-edge carbide blades. CONS: Wrench does not fit the screws (bit too loose), no adjustment on depth of dado, and overall length with shaft may be too short depending on project and materials. Not so good on plastics and PVC as with most router tools, the plastic tends to melt and stick to the blades/bit surfaces on longer cuts/planes. Unknown where you would get replacement bits once needed, (they look pretty standard though) and you'll need your own properly sized star bit for the screws. Overall good value for this addition to your router tools.

This is a nicely-made bit that works well for flattening slabs. I like the fact that it is possible to put fresh working edges on the knives simply by rotating them using the supplied hex wrench. The only thing that could be better on this bit would be if there was a link at the bottom to get replacement knives after those that are on the bit eventually do wear out. Apart from that, this is a five-star bit.

This is my favorite flattening bit! It's super sharp and solid as well as keeping a great edge. I've been cutting some honey locust and it's killing my bits other than this one.

First off, make sure to use this at the recommended speed. This worked great for me to true my router table and to flatten stock. If you have a jig set up, this will work way better that a 3/4" end mill. Sanding afterwards is still a good idea, but this will do the hard work first. I would also suggest using a faceshield when in operation. replaceable blades are a great idea!

So first impressions are great. At 1.5 inches, this router bit is MASSIVE for flattening on a 1/4 shank router. As general advice, I would recommend a larger router with a 1/2 shank for any large amount of work, but if you already have a smaller router and don't want to buy a new one, this is the way to go.The instructions say to use 11mm carbide replacement bits if they wear out, which, again, is amazing compared to having to buy a new bit. Overall the bit ran pretty loud compared to my other bits, but I was careful not to go above the 16K RPM recommend rating. It cut fine on both spruce and walnut, with any bad cuts shown above to be user-error. I would highly recommend a router sled to go with a bit like this, but this bit is perfect for larger flattening projects. It was just ever so big to fit through the template hole on my Dewalt DCW600B router, so I carefully tightened it and just put the template through the bit itself to make it fit. At 1.5 inches diameter, its quite wide so you might have to do the same (CAREFULLY) with your own router depending on the model. Amazing find for my router bit collection.

I chose this 1.5" flatting router bit for use in flattening larger items that are either too wide or too heavy to run through my 13" planer. Best suited for a CNC, I've taken a run at a live-edge piece of wood with this bit via a very basic router sled. The bit performed well and was able to take off quite a bit of material after successive passes with minimal chipping and tear-out. Once the bulk of the material was removed, I ran the piece through the planer and had a lovely flat slab for use in a shelf project. Definitely helpful for keeping wear and tear on my planer to a minimum. The bit itself is heavy and seems well-built. The carbide inserts cut well but even more importantly, they can be replaced, making this bit useful long after the first set of carbide inserts are worn out. I especially appreciate that the inserts use a standard size (11x11x2 mm,30°) that's common on lathe and wood turning tools, making replacements easy to find. You can even upgrade to a higher-quality set of inserts right off of the bat if you wished. For someone getting into slab flattening via the handheld router method, this is a good choice and will save some wear and tear on your planer if you remove the bulk of the material with this bit first.

Flattening out slabs or any surface can be tough on bits, so the fact that this one allows you to rotate and replace the carbide inserts was a big bonus for me.FIRST IMPRESSION:The bit arrived in a handy plastic cylinder that can be reused to store the bit and keep the edges from getting damaged. It also has a tool for removing or rotating the carbide inserts, which can all be stored in one place.BUILD QUALITY:The bit is well-made with clean machined edges. It's well-balanced with very little wobble. I did find that how you attach the carbide inserts can slightly affect the balance of the tool, but it is minimal.CARBIDE INSERTS:So this is what sold me on this tool. Being able to rotate each insert up to 3 times to get a clean cutting edge, and after that being able to replace the carbide inserts completely is fantastic. It means you are always cutting with a nice sharp surface. When it arrived, the inserts all looked aligned, but playing around with it, I discovered that you can be slightly off on your angles when tightening the inserts down. I ended up using a flat surface to try and get mine as true as possible.REPLACEMENT: The carbide inserts are 11mm square straight, and after a quick search, there are a fair amount of inserts that should work for replacements when needed.PERFORMANCE: So far, I've been able to get a nice clean cut. The bit does a decent job of removing material and keeping a nice clean edge. It's a bit of a dance to figure out the best speed for the bit, but once you get there it works quite well.WHAT I LIKED:- Well-made- Carbide inserts are rotatable and replaceable- Will fit most routersWHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:- Blades take a bit of work to get truly squared up. It will work fine without doing this, but if you spend the time, you will get a cleaner cut.

This slab flattening router bit comes in a clear plastic twist case that is also good for storage of the bit when not in use. It also comes with a thumb T8 bit that fits the screws on the bit that allow the cutterheads to be rotatable when a new sharp edge is needed and to replace them when all four sides of the cutterhead are dull. The T8 bit works satisfactorily for an included bit that is only used for the screws on this router bit. The cutterheads on this router bit do a clean efficient job of flattening a surface as long as I do not try to take too much off in one pass.I am really only using this bit for surfacing wood surfaces as I rarely have a need for an 11mm slot or groove, although I guess I could raise the bit and run multiple passes for a wider slot. But I have better bits suited for those tasks and I would rather leave the cutterheads sharp for slab flattening. Regarding the replacement cutterheads though, they do not list replacements. I measured the heads at 10.90mm x 10.90mm, so 11mm x 11mm replacement bits should work with the thickness being 2mm and a 30-degree cutting bevel. I am pleased with the flattening capability of this bit and would recommend for that purpose.
