High quality cutter for plugs, or short dowel pins. Works great in hardwood.

I hesitated to purchase it because the Amazon image of the cutter did not show the orange color that CMT Orange Tools includes. (I have purchased CMT router bits and found them to be good quality). I was pleased to receive the cutter packaged in CMT colors; but unlike the router bits, the plug cutter does not have orange accents.

I have only cut 4 plugs so far but the ones I've cut from black walnut are perfect and smooth. No burning. I hope it continues. I do use a drill press. Can't comment on a hand drill.

Used the plug cutter to cut some plugs for a piece of furniture I was building. It was used in both Oak and Mahogony hardwoods and worked very well. Very clean cuts with no tear out. It is a very heavy duty cutter so I would not use it in a hand drill. I used a drill press to cut the plugs which worked perfectly.

Bought the 7/8" cutter for cutting a plug for my oak floor to remove a burn mark. Cutter was sharp and worked without any problems. No burn marks on the plug resulting in a very good repair job.
