Thought I’d still have to rinse this sand but came out clean as a whistle for our biocube 14

Was pleased with the texture and cleanliness of the sand. My children’s hamster enjoys sand baths and this was a great alternative to the more expensive sand that is specifically designed for hamsters.

I splurged on this sand because it said it was rinsed and kiln dried. I am so glad I did!I rinsed it one time and put it in the tank. I did not want to rinse sand over and over to get it clear. There was a hint of cloudiness for about 4 hours and then crystal clear. It is a fine sand and very light colored.I highly recommend this sand! 😊

Bottom line- would probably look at a different product.Switched out the top layer of my dirted aquarium (had white sand cap) to this in order to enhance the 'look' of the tank and show off my orange dwarf crayfish and yellow neorcaridia more. For that purpose, this sand looks great in the tank and my crayfish seem to love it.The main issue I am having with this product is how much the material floats and stays at the surface. Before placing it in my aquarium, I rinsed it multiple times in dechlorinated water. As stated, minimal dust was in the product. However, once I started putting it in the tank, a significant amount started to float to the surface. I used my hand to agitate the grains on the surfacefor probably 30 minutes, but only some of the grains fell. I almost took my net and scoped out what was floating to throw it away, but thought id give it time to see if anything sunk. The photo showing the sand 'blobs' at the surface was taken more than 24 hours later. These remained despite having a HOB filter that has circulated the surface water a lot. I ended up scooping those blobs out and throwing them away. I have never had this issue with any substrate in the past and was surprises by this.Another thing to note is just how fine the grains are. Compared to the white sand that was in there, which was purchased at a local pet store and labeled as fine grained also, this is a bit smaller (prob ave 0.3 mm instead of the 0.5mm my other sand is) - so the concern is whether or not this will compact too much to allow my plants to grow properly, as well as prevent waste from filtering down to the dirt layer to decompose there. I have plenty of malasian Trumper snails in my substrate, so hopefully they keep everything loose. However, I did not reduce any stars for this because after looking up sand grain size, it seems that my white sand was the mislabeled sand and should have been considered medium grain...so this product seems to labeled correctly. Hopefully my plants still thrive, as product page states this is good for plants. While the product looks nice, I ultimately gave it 3 stars because of the issue with 'floaters' and the aggrevation I have had.

didn't have to rinse too much low dust will float when filling aquarium but just swirl the water and it settles very well a little pricey but water stays clear not cloudy in tank would buy again a 40lb bag was enough for my 55 gallon long aquarium
