I returned due to missing parts in package. I replaced with another brand not designed for the clam and did not attach to the top. Have had trouble with it falling down when wind lifts enclosure. Had to make a custom plot holder. If I had it to do again I would have reordered the clam model and gave it another try.

This took a bit for me to figure out how to put together using the pieces that came with it. However, once I was able to figure that out, it works well. I have always had a problem with leaving my hunting blinds out for fear that an overnight snowfall with wet, heavy snow would collapse and snap the blind poles. I have lost about three blinds that way, ruining my hunting season. With this I have been able to put it up in the middle of the blind when I am leaving for the night and then when I get back in the morning, I just slide it down and put it off to the side so it doesn't get in my way while hunting. I am very happy with the way it goes up and comes down with ease and I am happy with this product.

This Clam extendible support pole arrived well packaged (see photo). All parts were present. The included written warranty information sheet was very thorough. The assembly instructions consist of one drawing (shown in the photo), but assembly is pretty intuitive and I had no issues. The pole and components are well made. The base piece had some sharp edges around the bottom, but that was easily trimmed with fine sandpaper. The base piece is very substantial and holds the pole well. The two-piece top mount attached easily to the Clam center hub existing screw, and the dovetail allows easy removal of the main pole. Extra bolts and screws are included in the package, presumably to help attach the pole to other brand shelters. The extendible pole consists of three aluminum nested tubes, held by a pair of plastic cam-locks (see photo). The minimum height of the assembled pole is 40-1/2”. The maximum height I measured is 101”. The height with just one extension extended is 70” maximum. Initially, the pole extensions slid quite easily, so I tightened the cam-locks as tight as they would go and still lock. Since the pole extensions still slid with a moderate load on them, I measured the load before slippage occurred. Both extended tubes and associated cam-locks held a pretty consistent 35 pound load before slipping, then slipped consistently at 36 to 40 pound load. I was very excited to get this pole because of concerns with the top hub on my Clam inverting with a rain load, wind load, or even a light sleet/snow load. The extensions on this pole slipped too easily for me to comfortably use it as-is. I noted that it held a load really well if I added a small metal hose clamp to each tube above each cam-lock, even allowing me to ease up on the cam lock pressure a bit to reduce the risk to the cam lock. With this simple addition, I am comfortable using this pole for its intended purpose. I am giving it four stars because it is well made, and complete, and works well with a very simple addition (two small hose clamps - which you can get with included thumb screws). On its own, the plastic cam locks don’t really work well enough for my liking. With my addition, I am happily adding it to my Clam kit bag.
