This took a spark from my flint and steel quickly and got a good transfer going on no time. Yes I can and have made my own but placing ready made straight into a pill bottle and into the supply bag is nice to do once in a while. This worked better then a few of my own char batches.Ease and convenience great as a source until you can learn and make your self. It is very helpful in getting the experience of using char cloth.

While it is fairly easy to make your own char cloth, this stuff is convenient and it works. That said, if you buy this or have this in your emergency survival kit make sure you practice getting your tinder to ignite with char cloth. It requires some finesse and you dont want to be figuring that out in an actual emergency. Practice! Ideally you have more than one tool in your skill set to make fire.

The Kaeser Wilderness Supply Charcloth works great. It is pliable looks to be charred perfectly. The tin box is a great size and really like that it included rubber band for keep it closed tight.I have had no issues at all with the charcloth and I have tried it so far with flint and steel, a ferro rod, and a fire piston. I generally like to make my own charcloth but needed some quick and didn't have time to do it myself, so I ordered the Kaeser Wilderness Supply Charcloth and will likely do it again if needed.

It works great! The tin is a good size to fit in my fire kit and came with a ranger band to keep it shut. The cloth is thick and sturdy. It is very durable but pulls apart easily when you need it. It took a spark from my flint and steel with the first strike and burned like a champ. I make my own car cloth but it never turns out this durable and ends up turning to dust in the tin. I bought this because I needed char cloth to start a fire to make char cloth but I may just buy more of this until I get some good cotton material. It'll be hard to go back to t-shirt cloth after this.

I recently presented part of a Webelos outdoor adventure to make fire without matches or a lighter at a campout and used this char cloth as part of the flint & steel part.It worked fantastically- a small spark would catch, and could be fanned into larger flame easily. (for details, watch the Townsends video on fire making on Youtube)Highly recommend!

Okay, so realistically if you plan to be reliant on char-cloth then you'd best know how to make it yourself. But for the adventurer who also works 60+hrs a week and has a family life to juggle this is a fully functional time-saver. I picked this up for an upcoming camping trip load-out but removed half the cloth to stow in my char tin, which I'll be using to teach my son how to actually make and use char-cloth. I've tested this with a lighter, striker and sparker, and the ignition is just the same as for what I make myself. The tin is good and the ranger band keeps the lid snug. I prefer threaded lids but this would work in a pinch if you wanted to punch a hole to use it for making your own char-cloth. Overall it's an excellent product, would certainly purchase again to stock/re-stock the family BOBs and my practice kits.
