The infra-red diodes worked fine in my old photo transistor in a 8" floppy drive from the 1980's. I knew there was some risk of the wavelength not matching the old photo transistor, but I got lucky and did not need to replace the photo transistor along with the diode.

For use with Maker projects / FastLED / WLEDMM etc. I have found these to be more trouble than they are worth. I only use the receivers and the difference between these and authentic Vishay TSOP38238 receivers is night and day, four times the distance with zero errors.

I bought these for a IR ring to fill in some low spots from my security camera. I used the 850nm and in testing got a decent light spread, as I did not except them to work as a spot light. Some of the comments I have seen where people are saying they are not bright in a camera may be using the wrong LEDs for the IR filter the camera has. Using a 940nm in a 850nm is going to produce very little if any light in the camera.

These worked out OK. I was not able to achieve any long range by pairing sensors and LEDs, but the pairing could work for things like a paper towel dispenser. I did setup a sender/receiver pair separated by several feet at one point and it worked out fine. Fun little project for microcontrollers or a 555 timer. I think these could work fine for a remote control system.

Yeah....when the IR LEDs die a slow death Hikvision would just LOVE for you to buy new cameras. The cameras you have are probably perfectly fine except for the night IR capability where the image is just black. Not very "secure".....The parts required are these 3mm 850nm for LEDs. About a 2 hour job per unit. Tools -Solder suckerCopper De-solder wickFlush cut nippers to straighten bent leads after desolder and to trim leads of LEDs after installSoldering station with adjustable temp and small half chisel face tip.LED Head Magnifier, Rechargeable Hands Free Headband Magnifying Glass (not required but sure is helpful for older eyes)Small Phillips jewelers screwdriver and the Torks bit to open the unit. All of mine are dome cameras.I got these because it's enough for three cameras with 10 left over for the next batch. These were $10 a pack. If you wanted to wait awhile you can get these much cheaper from Alibaba or Bang Good. The primary difference in the replacement units above and what was removed from the board was the placement of the flat spot indicating polarity. The removed units had the flat spot on the side of the negative, short leg of the LED (standard) while the replacements had the flat spot on the face of the LED with the negative, short leg to the right (nonstandard). The PCB has an orientation symbol silk screened on....to place the replacement in the right orientation turn the board so the image has the flat spot on the bottom as you look at it then place the replacement short lead to your right and insert. Easy peazy. In any event you should check the LEDs you use to make sure they didn't place the flat spot in some screwy orientation. Negative lead should always be shorter, tho.It is "fine work" so if you have no experience soldering or knowledge of electronics this may not be the project for you.

4 stars because they work well (and are fairly bright) but unfortunately I cannot use them for my application. My application requires an IR LED for computer vision under IR lighting at close range. This means I'm trying to illuminate a surface about 40cm away so that it can be analyzed by software. These LEDs are bright enough for my application, but they suffer from poor optics like most 5mm through-hole LEDs. By that, I mean that they produce uneven lighting with circular patterns of light/dark/light areas rather than a smooth consistent glow from the center-out.If you don't have crazy-strict requirements like mine, these will probably work pretty well for you. I've been through a lot of IR LEDs and these are some of the better ones for the price.
