I have a dashcam that has the option to run 24x7 even when the car is turned off, only you need to buy an adapter that allows you to connect it to a direct source to the battery. With this OBD2 to USB-C connector, I can power it even when my car is turned off.I can also use it to power other things while the car is off too, like my charging my cell phone. It works simply and easily with no issues whatsoever. Keep in mind though, that it will wear your battery down if you power things without the car running.

I needed a simple, behind the moulding wiring solution to power my dash cam. This fits the bill! It's a much thinner wire than I expected, but that makes it easier to tuck behind the trim strips in the car without having to use a spudge tool to remove the actual panels. This plugs neatly under the dash in the OBD2 port and runs up the A pillar, behind the visor, and down to the backside of the mirror where my dash cam is. It turns on with the car and turns off, so no worries about draining the car battery. The only trick you need to know is to leave a little extra near the plug so it is removable. When you have a car problem, your dealer or mechanic is going to want to put something else in that port to read the fault codes!
