Four out of five times, this mount does not align or track correctly. You need very high quality AA batteries or the mount will malfunction and move itself in random directions possibly breaking your star diagonal. The seller did not include all of the items listed in the user manual as being included. I have tried contacting them but they seem to be unavailable for contact through Amazon. For what it's worth, the optical tube assembly seems pretty nice.

This is a great step up telescope after getting experience with something smaller. Using the electronics and getting it aligned takes practice but it is so worth it. Having it track objects means once you find it other people can check it out without constant correction.

I am new to astrophotography, but this is the reason I got this Celestron NexStar 8 se. My very first telescope. It is bigger than I thought, but surprisingly light weight. I took me about hour and half to put it together and align (with lots of patience and YouTube videos). I took this picture with solar filter, t-ring and adapter for My Canon that I have purchased separately here at Amazon. Absolutely love it, can't wait for night time without clouds.Update... still in love with teescope. Have more night time pictures posted :Orion Nebula and Moon.

Funny how Amazon wants me to rate this telescope on Portability. This is an 8 - inch Schmidt, so portability isn't exactly what I was looking for. Yes, you can move it around from site to site if need be, but be prepared to lug around several heavy boxes. This is a great scope for the money, though. It is my third telescope, and was purchased so that I could do some deep sky observing and photography in retirement. The two pictures show the scope set up in my overly lighted back yard (not where I plan to do observing later this fall). The second is a hand-held photo through the eyepiece with a cellphone camera (no special settings, just point and click). The scope and mount are both heavy, which is a good thing since that also makes them more stable. The only complaint I have (soon to be fixed) is the finder. It is the typical "BB Gun Red Dot Sight". While it works, I will be replacing it with something better. The scope optics are top notch and the computerized Go-To mount works flawlessly as long as you set it up properly (I didn't the first time out). All in all, a great investment that I hope will bring me years of enjoyment.

Great telescope, but not as easy to set up navigation as they claim. Have yet to lock in on their system, but can find a lot with my Sky View app.

Razor sharp optics in the right environment. (Away from buildings, preferably moonless nights, etc..) mechanically, the single arm mount is pretty stable. For me, alignment and tracking are actually impressive. Hint for those viewing from home...during initial setup, plug in your latitude and longitude instead of your zip, city or whatever. You'll understand why when you do. If you take your time setting up this scope you will be impressed with the results. One other note, if your "deal" includes the eyepiece kit just know going in that they are not the best quality elements.

Seems a good piece of equipment. My problem is that one tripod leg was loose and come out of it socket at first use, when extending the bottom part, and will not stay inside it socket. You lift the tripod, it may stay with it, but as soon as you touch it, comes off. Tried to troubleshoot to see if there was something to tight or secure, but no luck. Seems that I have been unlucky and got a faulty piece of equipment.Talked to the seller, and will return it. No issue there. Adorama was very professional. However, it comes in a large box that contains the OTA, the tripod, and the arm with motors that goes over the tripod. Assembly is fast and easy (if it weren't for the leg that pops off). You have inside also the same instructions/software that you can download from Celestron website, a RS232 cable to connect the handset to a PC (which PC in recent years has a RS232 serial port??) for which you will need an adapter (unless your computer is from the 90'), the star diagonal and the eyepiece. Also you have the Celestron kit with the filters and additional Plossyl eyepieces. The scope is well packaged in a double box, with each piece in a styrofoam insert and bubble wrap.Transportation damage is unlikely, unless very badly treated by the courier. The entire scope is not particularly heavy, but it is unlikely to be transported in a single piece, makes more sense and more practical to move the tripod as a piece and the OTA+arm together as another, if you need to carry in/out the house or move it in a car.Didn't use it much, more than the initial setup, because of the tripod leg. Didn't feel safe to use.Setup is easy enough. The trick is making the initial alignment of the small finderscope. If that is done properly, then doing the telescope skyalign/3stars alignment is easy.Another trick not described in the documentation, is balancing the scope at the right point on the dovetail guide. The scope need to be pushed almost all to the front, leaving only 1.5-2" or 4-5 cm of rail, so that the CELESTRON marking on the rail is fully visible with a few cm to the fork still. One annoying thing, the handheld controller doesn't keep the time. Everytime you switch on/off you need to re-enter the exact time.Once setup and aligned, the tracking of stars not that precise... they keep drifting. Maybe related to the tripod leg problem.Anyway, returning it and hope the next one has no defect
