The CE Smith 27310G Heavy Duty Side Mount Spare Tire Carrier is perfect for mounting vertically to the side of your trailer tongue or frame rails. This strong tire carrier’s offset design moves the tire and wheel up and away from the trailer frame, improving ground clearance. The vertical offset is 5” and the side offset is 4.5”. It is easy to install—no drilling needed—and comes with zinc-plated hardware. The tire carrier comes with U-bolts that clamp the carrier to the trailer frame, and the crisscross design increases the holding power of the bolts. The mounting U-bolts can be crossed to fit short frames or installed parallel for more reach. This durable tire frame is made with galvanized 3/16” thick steel for worry-free trailering. It fits frames up to 4" tall by 1" to 3.5" wide, and holds 4 or 5 lug wheels up to 15”. The tire carrier is not compatible with 5-on-5" or 5-on-5.5" bolt pattern.

I really wanted to use this but, it would not fit on the aluminum frame rails of my trailer. First place I tried was the actual wishbone rail, no go. Next the bow pulpit, no room. Then the trailer tongue, same thing no room. It's well made and didn't break the bank, it just didn't work out.

This spare tire mount came as described and was clearly a brand new product. It was easy to mount with the right tools. It came with two different sized mounting hardware in case your mounting location was larger. I mounted mine on the tongue so I used the larger hardware. I would have loved to see galvanized mounting hardware but I mounted in a location that won’t get wet. When it does rust, I’ll just replace with galvanized hardware.

I haven't had this wheel mount long enough to comment on how well it holds up to saltwater environments, but the mount itself seems very sturdy and galvanized. As noted by others, the U-bolts and washers and nuts do not appear to be galvanized so may present problem with early corrosion. The lower rating is due to couple issues experienced during install. First, and not major problem is that I was shorted one washer. I ended up buying a pack of stainless to resolve. More importantly, as noted by others, the bracket did not work out of the box for my 10-inch wheel. The screws on the u-brackets extend too far out and make contact with the tire. To resolve this, I used a Dremel (or hacksaw or sawzall wiill do) to cut down the excess from the bottom brackets. I also needed to add spacers to increase the distance of tire from the mount. I used some heavy duty nylon bushings from local hardware, but many washers could also be used as cited by others. This extended the distance by approximately another 3/4" and left sufficient amount of the bolt to allow complete coverage by the locking nut.As shown in the pictures, the result was very good for me--the bottom bolt bracket and nut clear the wheel by a fraction and final mount was very compact. Another reason I chose this mount type is that there is no sharp edges exposed to areas where you commonly stand such as a boat trailer or protruding that would catch clothing or skin.In summary, very happy with end result, but only giving 3 stars due to missing washer (minor problem), but more importantly the lack of information or warning on smaller wheels. Just says "up to 15 inches" but should cite need for possible modification on smaller wheels. If wish to market to smaller wheels, then include bushings and 2nd set of brackets--could be a separately proced bundle to cover costs.

Really well-crafted bracket. Welds are full thickness, no splatter, no cracks.

So far I have used this for one summer and it has performed perfectly. The spare is out of the way on the tongue behind the hitch and trailer jack. Saves me loading it into the boat or truck every time.

Very sturdy construction vs the cheaper tire carriers you see other people selling. Looks like it has several configurations to fit most application. I used this tire carrier on a rectangular aluminum trailer. Fit perfect and installation took 10 mins. Remember to put anti-seeze on lug nuts so when you need spare tire you can actually get it off and use it

This is solid. One formed piece so no chance to break off at a weld due to vibration overtime.Packaged well and all pieces came with it.I put my iPhone beside it (look closely) to give an idea of how heavy the gauge of steel is used. Even though it’s galvanized; a great feature, some known rust prevention spray should also help keep it for years, likely outlast my trailer.I could not find anything like it at Princess Auto or Canadian tire, only the welded carriers which do break at the welds on people sometimes which I didn’t want something that had the chance of doing so.Glad I went with this.

Since my boat trailer is hot dip galvanized, I had to mount a hot dipped galvanized spare tire carrier to match. I especially like this spare carrier bracket because of it's simplicity and construction. It's well engineered and actually utilizes some of the trailer frame to increase it's strength. I mounted it close to the coupler head and like the look and appearance. In keeping with the galvanized trailer, I sprayed the spare tire carrier mounting u-bolts with a cold galvanized rattle-can spray to prevent rust & to maintain the rust free appearance.

Works well. Installation was a piece of cake although the bottom stud doesn't sit flush in socket, manufacturing issue. Wasn't a big deal as I was still able to mount and tighten the spare even with the stud angled slightly. Haven't had the opportunity to test it long term but so far happy with it.

When I bought my little fishing boat the previous owner had the spare attached with a hodge-podge of bolts and nuts. This very strong reinforced galvanized unit fits nicely on my trailer and gets the job done. Living at the coast things rust quickly so rather than take a chance I also coated it with ZRC Zinc [...] before installing it along with all the attachment hardware (NOT galvanized). To make sure it and the wheel stayed on the trailer I added a Trimax ST30 Trimaflex Spare Tire Cable Lock with round key ([...]. Very happy now.My only disappointment with this unit is that the supplied nuts, washers and U-bolts were not galvanized. That just didn't make sense to me.
