Hi Parents! Here is your real-life product feedback. Truthfully, what I want is one of those handy-dandy household carpet shampoo-er or a steam cleaner, but our budget says, "no-way!". We have two toddlers and a cat.. so stains happen. I bought this product to do a deep clean of some cat vomit on our upstairs wall to wall, looped carpet. I wanted to really rinse the carpet instead of just removing the discoloration.I used Resolve (sorry Oxy-clean, but it works better) and the Splot cleaning tool. It pulled up a good but of dirty water, much better than what I could have done with a damp rag and pressure, so, yay! I did learn a few helpful things which is why I wanted to review this product. (Perhaps the manufacturers could write better directions?) First, the "clean water" reservoir needs to mostly empty itself before it "sucks"... so be patient, and keep at it. Get your kids to help! Also, it doesn't pull up all the water you put into it, but that makes sense to me. The carpet is rather wet (not soggy) when you're done, so the "lost water" is held up in the fibers. Not a big deal, it will dry in a day, more quickly if you step on it with a towel.The second thing I noticed is this product would work perfectly for a 3in round stain but it not as effective for a larger area which is what I was dealing with. I worked the stain out in patches. Overall, I'm pleased with the result. It's not as good as a proper shampoo machine would have done (duh..), but it actually rinses and cleans the fibers much better than I could have done with a wet rag, and it's within our budget. All that to say, I'm happy to have it in my arsenal for when the next round of the stomach bug rolls around! ...cause with several little kids, you know it's comin'.

I saw the Splot demonstrated on the Today Show, was impressed and ordered it despite the negative reviews. With patience and some practice, I got it to work and now have no problems with. It takes more pumping than I had expected. It's great for spills and pets.

I think it was a big fat joke. (the machine) I think OxiClean liquid is a great product but this Splot carpet stain remover thing does not work. It leaves too much water on the carpet and no matter how hard you try to pump it it dosen't get the water up. It is a lot smaller than it appears, the tub is split in half on the inside. The concept is you pump the handle up and down and pressures the water into your carpet through this 2 inch hole in the bottom and than the water is supposed to return to the other half. Not so. most of the water stays in the carpet. nothing to make it clean. I did much better just spraying the oxiClean do the spots and rubbing with a brush. (the OxiXlean does not come with it. I would have sent it back but my daughter had already broken the box. Lesson learned

This product was able to remove about 90% of a stain that had been in a carpet for months. I highly recommend it!
