I installed this in my garage. My house is all electric, but I use this for when I'm warming up my car in the winter months. So far it has worked well.

Let me start by saying if you require a CO detector that needs to power itself during power outages, this is not the device for you. It does not have power backup. That said, it is hard to beat the convenience of simply plugging in this device in a hallway and leaving it to do its job. Given the majority of cases when it would be needed will occur when there is power provided to it (such as CO dangers caused by a natural gas furnace or appliance under normal operation), it should be OK for most uses. While I can't easily test the CO detection itself, I can test the alarm and, oh boy, is it piercing and loud. There is no way you will be able to miss hearing this short of being extremely hard of hearing. There is also a convenient display that will let you know the current levels as it monitors its surroundings - you should be able to get an idea of whether or not levels start to rise before it becomes an issue. It really is hard to beat the convenience of this device. If you don't need backup power, it is worth considering.

I definitely recommend any one getting one of these for your home. To finally have one just brings an extra value of safety. It’s nice and small. You just plug it in to any standard outlet. The digital display screen shows the level of CO, with three LED indicator lights. green LED indicates normal operation , yellow LED indicates fault, red LED indicates alarm status. It has a loud alarm if it detects anything. This is great so it lets you know right away.

COOKSS Plug In Carbon Monoxide Detector. Great! We thought, excellent, no batteries. Just plug it in. Well, yes, but if you read the instructions and follow them, you may be hard pressed to find a good place to plug it in. It’s supposed to be so far from a heat register. OK. But there are only so many outlets to choose from and a small room has no outlet far enough from a vent. We thought the master bedroom might work but the lights on this thing are so bright we couldn’t sleep with it in the room. Weirdly, the instructions mentioned plugging it in on the ceiling – who has outlets up there? The alarm is loud, no batteries to replace, obnoxiously bright red & green lights on it … I just hope the location we finally chose is not too close to registers to prevent it working properly.

This is a plug-in carbon monoxide detector, so no need to replace batteries, but note that it will not work if power goes out - would be nice if it had a battery backup option too (like an alarm clock). Still, as all of that is clear from the product page, not taking points off for it.Make sure you keep the manual a scan of it - there are some calibration and functional elements using the one button in the middle that are not intuitive, so you may need the manual to reference those instructions.

I have tested several air quality monitors including CO and CO2 monitors, but they all have had one fatal flaw: they require batteries. This means that unless you have a monitor where you are going to see it and test it frequently, the batteries will die and you won't know. This CO monitor and alarm plugs directly into a 120V standard North American power outlet. I definitely prefer this type for longer term use in a bedroom or other living space. The downside of this, however is that this device will not function if the main power goes out. (The optimal solution would be to have an add-on replaceable backup battery in addition to the standard power.)The display on this monitor is clear and it shows the CO PPM in an easily readable manner, as well as a multi-color green/yellow/red safety level visual alert. The audible buzzer / alarm is loud and unambiguous. The alarm has an easy-to-use self test button and self-calibration process so I am confident that it is accurate enough to provide adequate home safety. This is a great safety addition for any home.
