I have a Sherline bench top mini lathe that uses 1/4” and 3/8” tooling. I’ve been looking for an alternative to Sherline tooling because while they make excellent products. They can be quite expensive. I was primarily looking for a cheap boring bar as I was just cutting a few plastic pieces so I wasn’t really looking to spend $150 on a boring bar right now.I bought this set and I’m very pleased with the quality of the tools and the packaging was great too! However, sadly… These are 10mm but are advertised as 3/8”. So they don’t fit in my tool posts.I used the lathe and some other tooling I had to turn down the bars to 3/8” and they work very well. I will need to mill down the square tools in the future to make them fit. But fortunately I have plenty of those tools. But I’ll keep them as backup tooling.

This set of lathe tools is perfect for smaller lathes. It contains the tools you need for most every turning job. The tools each come with the wrench for the insert screw. Unfortunately, my set was missing three inserts. I found one rattling around in the box, but the other two were nowhere to be found. It seems the problem is that the box is a little undersized for the contents, and squeezed the plastic container holding the inserts allowing some to fall out of the box. Had all of the inserts been there, it would have been a five star rating. 4 stars.
