After having used entry level, high speed steel tools for the past 8 years, these are a dream to work with. I'm excited about having replaceable cutting edges that seem to last, and not having to stop and sharpen every 10 minutes. I mostly work with walnut and other denser hardwood, and have also turned quite a bit of ironwood. I've only used these to work with walnut and hard maple so far, but I am extremely pleased. Build quality is precise and well made. Do not hesitate to upgrade to this set!

This set greatly lessened the learning curve of turning. The one thing it seems is that the blades don’t hold an edge very long. I have turned 4 bowls and have already had to turn the blades.

These lathe tools are very well made. They have replaceable tips which is a plus. I have been using them for sometime nowVery good and price is right

I bought these wanting to try the carbide tips. I feel like the product is good quality, the tips cut really well. I think the only downfall is changing out the ends every time you need a new tool and that the threaded parts will vibrate loose. I just put a little blue lock tight on the threads and that solved it. I might buy extra handle eventually.

First, the case is really hard to get some parts out of. I'm going to cut some notches than it will probably be okay. Would be nice if they'd thought of that, but no big deal. The carbide do cut well, but not as smoothly as some higher quality tools I've used. Very usable, but just not on the par with, say EWT. Threads are a bit rough and parts don't screw together smoothly. THis is a bit concerning to me b/c it's pretty thin aluminum and so longevity is suspect. Fit and finish is not great but okay. Case looks a bit cheap. BUT, the set WAS "cheap" ... so I'm not surprised. They do work and for the $$ I am not at all unhappy with them. Satisfied, just not excited. Debated back and fort 3 or 4 stars. If the threads had been a little cleaner and thus inspired a bit more confidence and if it didn't frustrate me every time I try to pull them out of the foam case, I could probably go 4. I'd recommend them to someone on a budget or someone wanting to try out carbide turning tools. For a seasoned turner who has high expectations ... maybe not so much, but I expect that is the case with most of these economy carbide sets.

These are good, sharp lathe tools. They remove material fast and make some clean shavings, and best of all, they stay sharp way longer than any HSS tools, which means I don’t have to pause my project to hone my tools every 5 minutes. I use them to turn very hard woods like Osage orange and lemon eucalyptus and these tools have no issue. I also really love how long these are!If you’re hesitant to buy carbide tools because you heard HSS is sharper or leaves a cleaner finish, don’t let that stop you. HSS dulls fast so they’ll only be sharper than carbide for a few seconds on the lathe, and I haven’t found the finish thing to really be a concern.The case they come in is sturdy and convenient with some high quality insert foam.The seller is super helpful, too. One of my tools came with a chipped cutter and they sent me a whole pack of spare cutters.I would say the only flaw these tools have is that the vibrations from using these on the lathe seem to make the threads on the ferrule rattle a bit loose. It’s only the thread of the ferrule itself that attaches to the handle, the set screws that clamp the actual tool are solid. The ferrule won’t actually come loose so it’s not a huge issue and all the pros these tools have more than compensate for this one con.I’d say you really can’t go wrong with them. They’re great tools for wood turning.

This set is a solid build well though out tool set. I really like the flexibility of configuration. You can use a different tool in each handle, or connect the handles together if you need more leverage. I can't see me needing that very often. So i have two handles. I turned some walnut bases for some lithophane lamps I made and the tools worked great. I'm just a beginning turner but the tools cut the walnut smooth as silk. I am very happy with the tools. The only suggestion I have is you may want to use some removable lock-tight on the handle adapter to secure it a bit better.If I could order two new handles I would and just keep all the tools mounted. I think this is a great value for a beginning word worker. They may even be great for a pro, but I'm not one so I can't judge that :)
