I found this draw wire encoder to be linear and accurate, but only when I used an expensive, well regulated power supply. When I attached a $9 24 VDC powerblock (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C14H1SKB), the device was much less accurate in terms of absolute position and linearity. So add the cost of a high quality, well regulated 24 VDC power supply to the cost of this item unless you have one already. It is quite possible that the encoders designed to output voltage rather than current have internal regulation that allows the use of inexpensive power supplies, but I was not able to test that hypothesis.What I do like about this encoder is that it is absolute rather than relative, and for many applications, that is very important. I do not recommend you get the 4-20ma output version as I had to add an external op amp circuit to convert this to 0 - 10 volts so I could monitor the position on a volt meter. I am using this to monitor the position of a precision drill press and monitoring current does not work well for me.

Quality build. Middle of the road performance. I will probably keep it and use it as a backup.
