I have never chopped anything except ice and it was always in a plastic container. Yet one of the prongs has bent. I can still use it, but I've only had it 8 months and i'm an old lady with not that much strength so not sure about the quality and durability anymore.

I've used metal hammers and single ice pics before. But nothing has worked as well as this one. I love how it grips the ice and doesn't cause ice to slip away. Easy grip hand. Well made.

Just so you all know how I'm using this 3 Prong Ice Breaker for basing my review, for the last month I've gone thru about Ten, 7-10 pound bags of ice in my refrigerator freezer for dispensing out thru the door(It does have its own ice maker with filter but you get no where near the quality of store bought ice). I used to use a standard ice pick with a long metal rod with a sharp point at the end( 4 inches long ) . I was looking for something that like my old one, would NOT 'splatter' ice cube bits and pieces everywhere! Also most importantly I was concerned that the long pick would penetrate through the ice layer and 'stab' the side and bottom of the plastic freezer storage container(not to be mistaken for the door dispenser container) I knew I would eventually poke a hole or crack the container and I needed a solution from breaking the container and splattering the ice. This Ice Breaker solved Both problems for me. The 3 prongs(heavy duty) are 1-1/4 inch long, embedded in chromed metal and spaced 1/2 inch apart, it is long and wide enough the break up the ice plus its total length with a ergonomic and smooth 4 inch long wood handle is only 7-1/4 inches long which allows me to wrap my hand around the handle and have full control of where I'm going to strike. Breaks up ice without to much damage to cubes(mine are hollow in the middle). A good solid tool. P.S. I do not leave mine in ice container so I cant tell you about how well the wood is going to do, my opinion is that it would be fine.

I feel this ice pic is of very good quality, I have not used it yet but I have no doubt it will perform very well, I would recommend it to others.

I use this for more than just breaking ice. With arthritis in my hands this works great to open boxes or breakdown boxes.
