My thrift store find, a Yamaha YST-MS50 multimedia speaker set with subwoofer, came with no cables. This 8-pin mini-DIN cable by Legrand works with it. The 10 ft length is perfect for locating the subwoofer under my desk and routing the cable properly.

I bought this cable because it was advertised as a cable to use to connect a Mac to a serial peripheral. I bought it based on that description. However, it is wired straight through and a Mac serial cable (or printer cable) is wired for a cross-over.Because of this I have spent the last 2 days trying to troubleshoot why my classic Mac isn't working with anything. I tried upgrading the software, which was something I was hoping not to do. I tried several peripherals. I eventually tried this on another Mac and that one didn't work either. Then I checked it with a meter and found it was wired straight through.DON'T BUY THIS CABLE FOR USE WITH A MAC!!!

Finding a mini din 8 to match whatever proprietary cable your speaker company gave you can be quite the headache sometimes. The one has worked perfectly for my Harmon Nova 2.0 desktop speakers...thats literally the only reason I bought the cable and the only criterion for this review. So its getting 5 stars ez.

I purchased these cables for use with a rack mounted DJ dual CD player remote control unit. (The control unit and dual CD players are mounted separately and require control cables for each player in the unit.) I was apprehensive because I wasn't sure if the original cables were proprietary, but I'm happy to say these work great! I can now use equipment I got at auction and was afraid I would not be able to use due to no cable.

cable is good and works correctly when in proper application.however, in trying to troubleshoot why this cable wasnt working for me, I discovered there is more than one implementation of the Mini-Din 8 wiring specification, and everybody does it differently - you MUST research your application to ensure it is using the "standard" MD8 for this cable to be right for you. For example, if you're connecting old mac computers, or midi interfaces - this is NOT the cable for you!I am using a 6' MD8 cable currently to network two computer MIDI interfaces, Mark of the Unicorn Midi Time Piece AVs. I bought this 10' to give me more flexibility in the cable run and it did not work. upon doing more research, I found that I require an "ImageWriter II" cable to make this work, which apparently swaps two pins at each end over standard MD8 configuration. This is why these cables will not work for me.the alarming thing is that if you look into the manufacturers catalogs - they do make both kinds, but frequently make no distinction between the two or that the detail should be paid attention to. Look up Monoprice 517 and 522 for an example of this. This cable works perfectly fine and does its job - it simply did not work my needs.

I have had the same pair of EV Sonic XS 2.1 speakers for over 10 years, and lent them to one of my homies, who in turn lost the controller cable. After reading on various forums that all I needed was a mini din cable, I ordered this. The quality of the cable is great, and it worked like a charm. Couldn't be happier. The cable arrive in less than 24 hours. Awesome.
