I did not use the struts for a normal vehicle application but they do compress about 2 inches which is enough travel for my application. I utilized them for extra support for my custom made e-bike rear cargo rack. I couldn't use solid supports due to the fact that the bike has rear suspension and the rear section of the frame has a pivot/flex point that moves up and down so the supports needed to have some type of movement so the bike suspension can still travel. I am not using them for a vehicle hatch or box lid, etc. I did try to compress them by hand before installation and I was not able to compress them by hand they were very stiff but they are rated for 100 pounds so I'm sure they would've been fine on a rear SUV hatch. They came from the manufacturer fully compressed with the polyester straps sewn on so they obviously are able to compress. Any customer that says they won't compress most likely bought a strut that it overrated for their application in my opinion.

Good replacement for my covered snowmobile trailer cover. They were a little longer than the original which required me to modify the mounts and also reuse the end pieces (through bolt type instead of ball end). Time will tell how long they last and will update if needed.

Bought to replace 22 year old struts on my heavy fiberglass topper. Install took minutes using only a small screw driver and the included instructions. They are working perfectly.

Bought these to replace the worn out ones on the the storage bay doors of my 2004 Monaco Monarch. They appear more robust the original ones.. They are larger in diameter and seem to be solidly built. I liked the first few I bought so much I ordered more to replace the rest of them.

Fit well and matched original gas piston. The retainer clips used to hold the ends on the 10mm studs were extremely stiff and hard to pry open. Usually, this is done easily with a flat blade screwdriver. When I tried to do this with the ones provided with the Arana gas pistons, they were very hard to pry open and rotated as I pried them. This caused the clip to pop out on one side and into the other side of the stud opening so the piston could not be installed on the stud. I eventually removed the clips provided by Arana and removed the clips from the old gas pistons and used them. This is the reason I rated them a 3. This turned a 5 minute instal job into a 30 minute job. PS: I am a mechanically inclined person with a degree in Mechanical engineering and do many do it yourself jobs.

One strut works perfectly but I need both to raise the mattress in my RV. The ball joint on one of them broke during assembly and now the ball and socket wonโt stay together. Canโt find anyway to order a replacement part or contact the company directly. Very disappointed.Update: Arana reached out to me after leaving a two star review for the above reason. They quickly shipped the replacement parts and the struts are working perfectly. If youโre tired of having to prop up your rv mattress to get to the storage compartment these are the perfect solution!

Tried these damper shocks on my truck canopy, a Raider(now discontinued) to replace the original mid 30's pressure. These are about 40 pressure, and certainly hold the rear window up but I was nervous about how much pressure it took to close the canopy window. After lots of use they work well, close nicely and I'm back to handfree opening once the latch is released. Not enough time yet to judge longevity thru cold winters ..but..Would buy again.
