The instructions are straight forward but in most cases the installer will need the basics of being able to strip wires and join them together and use a voltmeter. In my case, I am installing this on a Badlands 10k winch at the front of my Jeep Wrangler. I wnat everything to stay water tight so I am cutting the existing control wire to reuse the waterproof plug. Inside, wires for ground (connect to black to on the new controller black); green/white for power (new controller red); blue for winch in (new controller yellow) and brown for winch out (new controller white.)Someone else's wires maybe be different so I would recommend testing each wire with a voltmeter to verify. But every winch will have these four wires. Four wires to connect and your all set. Later I will add a light to use the other connection for a winching ligjht.

Summary:The idea of having wireless control of the plow along with a bonus feature to remotely control an auxiliary light was super appealing. I was really looking forward to installing this Bunker Industry winch control switch relay on our jeep's snowplow. The plow uses a small 1500 lb rated winch for raising and dropping the blade. Very disappointed after all the work it took to complete the installation. BUNKER INDUST indicates this winch remote control switch receiver kit is universal but the instructions recommend the kit be used with specific BUNKER INDUST winch and lighting products. The product description says the control box is rated IP67 to be dust-tight and waterproof in any scenario but sealing materials and assembly of the control box causes doubt (minus one star). The instructions convey the overall concept of installation and pairing the wireless remote however they miss a couple important details (minus one star). It took time, research and a couple of extra relays to get the kit up and running. This may not be the case for everyone, just be aware of possible challenges if this kit is not being installed on BUNKER INDUST products. The remote's range is impressive and the rechargeable battery seems to hold up well.Details:At first glance the USB-C rechargeable wireless remote controls (2) seemed to be well made with nice extra features built in. Features like a magnet base on a swivel hinge allowing excellent flexibility to use either the LED flashlight beam or flood light. The remote's bright yellow and black plastic case would be easy to spot in snow or in the floorboard of the truck. The operating instructions note the remote is not waterproof. The "controller box" was sealed with RTV gasket material. The control’s wire leads seemed short with different types and sizes of connectors. (Likely corresponding with other BUNKER INDUST winch products.) To connect the controller to my current winch power relay I had to drill out the negative (black) terminal to fit the relay post and the positive (red) terminal was too big. Both ended up being replaced with improved connectors. The controller leads looked to be 18-gauge aluminum wire. When the controller box was connected to power (12v DC) a “buzzing” sound would occur. Having heard this sound before from bad automotive relays, there was a brief moment of panic. It turns out that “buzz” sound is actually the indicator the controller has entered pairing mode. The instructions describe a “beep” sound for “pairing”.The instructions recommend installing the controller positive terminal to the battery through a circuit breaker (not included in the kit). I used a manual five-amp breaker so the power to the controller could be cycled on and off for pairing the remote. The installation instructions show connecting the control box to the winch. They should indicate the connections wired to the winch power relay. Once everything was wired and the remote paired; the auxiliary light and winch worked as intended.Bottom line:There could be some major improvement in the instructions, correct descriptions of wiring connections, and describing the “buzzing” sound for pairing the remote instead of “beep” would be a good start point. A better constructed control box with longer leads would be helpful as well. This BUNKER INDUST winch control kit works as it should, there is a minimal delay (1 second or less) between the wireless remote and the winch activating. Having remote control over the auxiliary light is a nice feature. The wireless remote has an excellent range. BUNKER INDUST notes a rated range of 50 feet; however, I have been able to operate the aux light from 60 feet away at times. The remote’s built-in battery saver shuts it off after a minute or so. This feature would be fine if I were using the winch for recovery or loading equipment on a trailer. Using the wireless remote with the winch-based snow plow is challenging with the short automatic shut off.I would consider purchasing this kit for other winch applications, vehicle recovery or maybe even equipment loading. It is a budget friendly option compared to locally available kits.

I finally got it, and have installed it. I have a 2021 Teryx4 S LE UTV with a Tractor Supply Traveller 4,500 pound winch. Because of my winch being of a different brand/manufacturer from this remote control, it works, but it was not a plug and play installation. In my case, a bit of knowledge of electrical circuit operation and polarity was required to determine the correct wiring connections when working with two different wiring color codes used by two different brands, as well as knowledge of basic electrical wiring safety and techniques. I have this knowledge, so it was just a matter of probing with a multimeter the polarity control wires going into the winch controller that determined correct operation while the winch was being operated IN and OUT with the wired controller. In my application, the wiring connections ended up being yellow remote IN wire to yellow winch controller IN wire and white remote IN wire to green winch controller IN wire for correct winch operation. But YMMV. Then of course, there is the fairly standard red battery + and black - (ground) which was the same on the remote and winch control wire. I tied off and did not use the blue auxiliary light wire because I do not yet have this light on my rig.The modifications made to the remote control wiring that were necessary for my application means that my remote control unit is no longer returnable, so I had to make sure that it worked before I cut any wires. This was my choice and is not a complaint, just an FYI that some buyers may require professional installation if they don't have the knowledge and experience to make the necessary modifications. All in all, I'm glad I have this, and am looking forward to being able to use my winch when needed without being limited by the length of the handheld wired winch controller. Yet, I did not remove this wired controller, but just disconnected it and left it in place so that I can still reconnect and use it should there be any sort of malfunction or failure of this remote.I'm hoping for and expecting a long and reliable service life for this new addition to my off road big boy toy for playing in the mud, will update this review if it becomes necessary.

This Bunker Industries remote control switch sounded like just what was needed to control a recently-inherited winch without its control cable. The package contains the switch box, the remote, and even the batteries for the remote. The switch does exactly what it claims to do, the switch responding instantly to the remote, and my multimeter does show that the 12-volt current is getting to those wires. But I can't seem to get it to work with the winch I'd hoped to operate. It certainly looks simple enough, power and ground in, then leads to the unwind/rewind leads, but apparently it isn't quite that easy.Certainly a good and functioning remote control switch, but designed perhaps for those with more experience in winches than I have.
