I wish I could give this more stars!!! It is super heavy copper and fits nicely inside both my mixing glass and Boston shakers. I like that it is heavy so I don’t have to ever worry about it popping off. The wire strainer on it is also very close together so I find myself double straining a lot less with this. I will add that I have been using this for a little while and it is developing a cool vintage patina to it which I like a lot. Not to find matching Boston shakers and mixing glasses to make a set!!!!

I've been working on building up my home bartending supplies and recently switched to Boston Shakers for cocktails, and needed to acquire a good quality strainer. I have one that came with a shaker set which works well enough, but lacked a bit in overall durability. This strainer was the perfect fit to supplement my supplies. It's thick, durable, and works perfectly. I went with the ground espresso design because I liked the look and feel of the design, which is textured and complements some of the other items I have on hand. It's weighted nicely, versatile in design with the double slotted feature, easy to clean, and made in the USA. The coils for straining do a great job keeping even the smallest ice pieces contained within the shaker. I expect this to last for many years and would highly recommend considering this brand when looking for a bar strainer.

First of all, I really do love this strainer. It fits snugly in both my mixing glass and my shaker tins. I love that the coil is densely coiled, so even thin ice chips are held at bay. My previous strainer had a rubberized paint coating both the body of the strainer and the coils, which was cool at first, but became a chipping nightmare, especially when cleaning the coil. I'm very pleased that the coil on this isn't painted so that won't be an issue here. It feels good in my hand and is easy to keep in place when pouring. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about is that there are areas of the purple, shiny paint that arrived with hairline scratches in the finish. Had those shown up a year or more into use I may not have minded, but brand new out of the box it should be pristine. So I did deduct one start from my rating for that. I imagine this is less of an issue on their more matte or speckled finishes, but I can't be sure since I only have the purple one. It's still a lovely color, stands out in my bar area and works perfectly, so overall I'm happy.

I recently received this cocktail strainer and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the product. Not only is it heavy and well made, it's attractive too.The diameter of the strainer is a little bigger than the other cocktail strainer we have, but it fits (albeit a little snug) in our cocktail shaker, so the larger diameter is not an issue. The strainer handle is somewhat short (about 1.25 inches), but this won't be an issue when making drinks. All in all, this cocktail strainer appears to be a great product and if not abused, should last a lifetime.

Updated 11/18/24:After a handful of uses, the strainer is starting to get a patina. While pretty for decorations, that's not ideal for food prep. It's also the first bar product of all my copper items that has done this. While I still highly recommend the strainer for Its form and function, I do NOT recommend the copper. Downgrading my rating from 5 to 3 (5 for the strainer use and design, 1 for the Copper finish, 3 averaged).**Previous review below**I’ve owned and used a lot of Hawthorne strainers over the years but never had a favorite before this Bull in China one.The strainer’s quality, both in materials and build, is very good. The weight is nicely balanced, and the top grip tab makes the strainer easy to hold in place and use while also holding and pouring my shaker one-handed.The coils are particularly nice on this Hawthorne. There are more of them than most, which keeps them closer together, and they compress well, so they can fit into smaller or larger shaker options with ease. They also trap more, keeping fragmented ice and other small items (like citrus seeds and pulp) from cocktails, and unlike some Hawthornes, the coils don’t slip off because the track where they’re attached is closed-ended.Despite the tightness of the coils, I find cleanup to be a breeze with this. It seems to release the stickier cocktail ingredients without scrubbing (I always rinse my Hawthorne’s immediately after use and wash them after mixing for the night), and maintains its shine once dry. Finally, the copper color is beautiful and matches my other copper barware items perfectly. This is a great strainer. It’s exactly what I wanted and works perfectly for me.

This is quite a nice strainer that made me realize the original one I had been using was not nearly as good. The original strainer I have was a generic one with an extra-dense coil spring; I was generally happy with it until I compared to this one.My original strainer had a tendency to fall/tilt into the shaker if not placed perfectly. This strainer has no chance of that due to the larger size and wider "wings" that sit on the shaker's edge; It fits perfectly in a standard size shaker. because of the perfect fit its also easier keep in position with one hand while pouring your drink out.The coil is even denser than the "dense" coil I had on my original and captures ice chips and pulp nicely. The espresso finish on mine is attractive and true to the images, very happy with it overall. If you are used to cheaper strainers, this is a solid upgrade with many attractive color options.
