Used to filet some striper bass. A great knife and incredibly sharp on arrival. Haven’t sharpened it yet. LONG blade.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well made this knife is. I previously bought a different folding fillet knife on Amazon (the one with the orange handle and black blade). That knife was okay for the price but the blade was too thin and I wasn’t able to sharpen it to a good edge. The Buck knife is much sturdier and the blade was very sharp right out of the box. Overall it’s a great knife

I wanted to buy a good knife as a gift. We own several Buck Knifes - which are made in the USA. I intentionally spent more money on this knife because I was led to believe it was made in the USA. I was disappointed to see "made in china" on the box. It's a good knife. The recipient was happy with it.

I expected a long, sharp fillet knife. But this is a very long, sharp, fillet knife. Although it is built in Taiwan it is still and excellent knife. I must admit I've not gone out and caught a big redfish to try it out on. I have no doubt this knife would perform the task very well. If you are accustomed to the long, light fixed blade Rapala knives this knife will still surprise you with it's length and heft. The handle gives great in-hand balance. It is also very non-slip with the blue wrapping around the handle. The long, slender and very sharp blade is flexible but tight in the hinge. No side play. It locks firmly when opened but unlocks nicely with a reasonable amount of pressure. All in all, an excellent knife for a reasonable price. Buck quality is in the knives they have made overseas. I would prefer a US made knife but, Buck is still a US company and one you can talk to on the phone.

Sent it back and ordered the folding version of same knife. Folding version easily fits in pocket and handier to use in boat etc. Holds a great edge whilst filleting fish and easily brought back to form with a few passes on a small steel which I also carry in my pocket. I own several good fillet knives, none are as good as this .

I bought this knife to throw in a fishing package for my little brothers christmas gift. Out of the fishing shirts, lures, baby wipes (nice when that coffee starts activating your insides on a boat with no toilet), etc., this was his favorite. In the past three weeks I'd say it's received a decent amount of use - enough so that I can post an honest review.Sharpness - 5/5Right out of the box, this knife is razor sharp - it will shave a baby's bottom like section of arm hair on your forearm with just two light passes of the knife. If you happen to graze the blade at any speed, it will cut your skin...very sharp...which is awesome for a fillet knife.Flexibility - 4/5Has a nice bend to it, It's stiff enough to get into some medium sized trout or redfish and still flexible enough to separate the skin from the meat when filleting. I like a little more bend in the knife so I don't have to tilt the knife down to horizontal while filleting - I'd say I like to be at a 25º angle, this one probably puts me at 18º from horizontal (not actual angles, just the way it feels to me)Corrosion Resistance ?/5 - so far a 5/5 but time will tellNo rust as this blade is coated in titanium - you can put titanium in salt water and it will not dissolve - this is great for any blades used in humid marine environments and in any knife that will be used for filleting. The 420J2 specification is not one that I have any knowledge on, but 420 steel is a pretty standard knife material for its decent edge retention and ease of resharpening.Size - 5/5Having this knife fold up makes it very desirable for a tackle box - no requirement for a sheath, compact size lets it fit in smaller spaces, no accidentally cutting yourself when it's closed - it's practical. When opened, it's the perfect size for filleting.Grip - 5/5Even with fish oil paws, you're not going to lose your grip - hard to top thatOverall it's an excellent knife that has, so far, held up to the less than stringent requirements that some of the other reviews on here also boast on it about. I'm buying another for myself, and will buy again when and if the knife fails

I catch and clean channel catfish more commonly than anything else and if you've ever cleaned one (or any catfish) you know how important it is to have a very sharp blade. I've used cheap Rapalla or Bass Pro brand knives until now and the difference is night and day. I wasn't too sure about having a folding filet knife just because I have always used a fixed blade and they are extremely sturdy with no give which is important. To my surprise I found I liked this design much more. The handle itself is a hard rubber that is no slip when wet. The grooves are also there for added grip, so it's not going anywhere if you have a good grip on it. Because it folds into the handle, the handle portion is equal to the length of the blade which makes it more balanced than a shorter handle that most fixed blades would have. This knife came to be extremely sharp and cut through some chicken like butter. I have since used it to clean about 4 channel cats and I couldn't be more happy. I haven't noticed any dulling on the blade whatsoever. Highly recommend this knife to any angler, or if you just want a new kitchen knife.
