I’ve had a lot of knife this is a good knife. But could use a little more power to cut the bones in a striped bass.

This is my second American Angler knife. We do A LOT of fishing and clean many fish. While kind of pricey, this is a very durable, long lasting knife.

I bought this knife in August. I fish manly for catfish. I had a Rapala for 2-1/2 years. And probably cleaned 1400 fish with it before the trigger started messing up. Figured I better get a new one before it left me high and dry. I thought I would try a American angler. I have probably cleaned about 200 fish so far. It works as expected. Sometimes the motor get a little hot but has not given me any trouble yet. I think it does run a bit slower than a Rapala but not enough to make a difference. I can’t say anything bad about Rapala. So far I really like the American Angler

I have used a regular fillet knife to fillet fish for the last 50 years but after seeing an American Angler electric fillet knife used, I became interested and talked to the man who had it. He convinced me and I ordered one. So far I have used it to fillet trout, perch, catfish and bass and I love it. It is so much superior to a manual filet knife that I wish I had bought one years ago. It is much easier to use and so effortless and fast in removing the skin after taking off a fillet. Good job American Angler!

This knife is ridiculously awesome and I cannot figure out why. It's just 2 blades moving back and forth just like every other electric fillet knife I have (mister twister, 2 different Berkley ones, and one other brand that I don't know). However, when going head to head cleaning fish with other knives when cleaning speckled trout, I can out clean my buddies 2 to 1. I rarely go through the thin skin of a spec and it produces spectacular fillets. When cleaning tougher red fish and trying to go their thick ribs, it doesn't even check up. It does the job like nothing I've ever seen. I really wish I could understand why...... It doesn't make any sense why it is SO much better.... but it just is.

They claim that it has twice as much torque than their previous models, however, it still needs more power for larger fish. I used it this past week to clean 72 Lake Erie walleyes and it was better than the electric knife it replaced, however, for the larger walleyes (over 5 lbs), it still got bogged down at times. I would have also liked to see them put a non-slip surface on the unit, as it can get pretty slippery to hold on to when cleaning fish. The stock blades that came with it were bad. Luckily the blades I had fit into it, so I used them instead. Also, the "constant-on" switch was somehow engaged by accident and it came on when I plugged it in. It took me a while to get it turned off. That could have been dangerous if the blade was near someone's hand when I plugged it in. It is still too early to know how it will hold up long term. Why can't anyone build an electric knife that has enough power for bigger fish? I need one with the power of a small sawzall, only in the shape of an electric filet knife.
