Brother Printer LT320CL Lower Tray Unit

My brother laser sits right above this tray so physical installation is easy but you better know what your doing to get your computer to find the second tray.The installation of Brother Utilities is a must.When you print, you need to go through a few windows to direct printing to the second tray.Thes tray is much deeper than the original and holds legal as well as letter and custom sized paper.

To install the unit, it was very simple. Basically put the tray down where printer will reside and then place the printer on top of it. Done. I had a heck of a time getting the tray recognized by my PC. I had to finally remove the installed printer and download the correct drivers. The instructions provided with the tray did not give accurate instructions to this.

I installed this tray into a Brother MFC-L8850CDW color laser printer a client had previously purchased. The tray is very large and I was impressed that it can handle up to legal size paper without having to "expand" the drawer to handle the extra 3" of paper length. Installation is very straightforward. The trick is to make sure you get the rear left corner of the printer on top of the drawer so that the connector slips in.

This larger capacity tray works as described. It was easy to install- just sit the printer on top of it and use the provided instructions for set up to designate Tray 2. The only complaint I have is that use of this tray slows down an already incredibly slow printer. I have honestly never had a printer that took this long to spool data before initiating printing. After adding in this 2nd paper tray, you hear multiple clicking noises and wait extra time before the page prints. However, once the printing starts, the speed is adequate.

The installation is easy, and it works. Here are my reservations. (1) Noisy, clanking sound when lower tray in use. (2) Apparently, it is impossible to change the settings so that "auto select" pulls the paper from the lower tray, which is obviously what one would like, since it is the larger tray. This is problematic under several situations I have when printing. It is SOOOO annoying to have to manually instruct the printer to pull from the second tray. (I have had two very long sessions with Brother "tech support," but my experiences with this "support" lead me to believe that I know significantly more about their printer (which is a problem). Not only did I read all materials available in writing or on line before calling, I have actually used the printer extensively.) (3) The printer speed is less with the lower tray than with the standard tray.

This item was exactly what we needed for the MFC-L8850 color laser we ordered. If you order this the best advice i can give is make sure you have at least one other person and plenty of room to set this up as the printer is heavy and its tricky to line up the holes without help. Shipping was super fast, it actually arrived before the printer did.

I would not normally have bought this item, except it is for a business and the extra capacity is needed. There was nothing to putting it together, just lift the printer and position in it's appropriate guide holes and set on top of this tray. My printer recognized it was there and started using it. I did have to tell it which tray to pull from first, but that is a no brainer, using the intuitive interface.
