This is the fifth anniversary of purchasing this printer. My wife and I have professsional practices and work from home - we are not heavy users, but when we need something we need it quickly and it needs to be of high quality. For five years this printer has Just Worked.

Love this printer. The colors are great. Setup on my Wi-Fi network was too easy. From the unboxing to printing my first test page was about 15 minutes. It only took that long because I walked through the online videos provided by the “Brother” channel on YouTube. Some of the added features that I found useful:• USB drive printing (It comes with a USB port built in)• Prints on any size paper, including legal size• Prints double sided automatically (or single sided if you prefer)• It’s a laser printer, so no clogged inkjets• Toner is very easy to replaceAnd of course, it’s a “Brother” printer, a name I have trusted for decades. If you are on the fence about buying this printer, I say just do it. You will be glad you did.

I purchased this printer in March 2023 for my home office. I'm a professional roadway and traffic engineer and work from home most of the time. I also have a HP inkjet that can handle 11"x17" (tabloid size) prints which I need to print on occasion (this Brother laser can't do 11"x17"). I just replaced all four toner cartridges at once (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) for the first time, so it went a year and a half on the cartridges it came with. It only took 10 minutes to do and it was super easy to change them, as easy as a laser printer can get. There have been no issues so far, and it also connects wirelessly to both my home desktop and work laptop with no problems at all.

This provides really excellent color printing, but not at the default settings. At default settings, everything came out pale and shifted green. Installing official Brother drivers did not help. They provided the same color quality as the Windows drivers. There is no ICC color profile available that I could find, which is disappointing for a business-grade product.I had to go to the front panel and fix the color myself, and then tell it to ignore what was coming from the driver and use my front panel settings. This is why I gave two stars on tech support. Setup was about a half hour of trial-and-error fixing their color problem. If you don't know to do this, prepare for a long phone call.Official supplies are very pricey. If you want High capacity black, it's $78 a cartridge. Normal capacity color is $78. High capacity color costs $130 a cartridge. I knew what I was getting into there. If you don't like the prices for the cartridges, there are generics available at $50 for the entire set of 4 high capacity toner cartridges. I cannot speak to the quality of the 3rd party products. I don't use them. This is full-on business-grade printer. It can do heavy duty printing. I am very pleased with this product. One star off for the lousy default settings and the price of the supplies. The quality of print and build quality are more important than initial setup.

The print quality is very good. It's sharp and clean. I even printed some photos and they came out very nice. It takes maybe 30 seconds to warm up but once it does it can spit out several pages a second I think. (I haven't time it.) It's noticably slower when you print duplex but still pretty good.I've run some light cardstock (like business cards) through it, and printed on mailing lables, and both have worked quite nicely. You can open a back door on the printer so that the paper has a straight paper path or close to, which can be a big help with thicker paper. The preferences screen is pretty intuitive and easy to use.I originally set it up to use an ethernet connection but then I decided it would be more convenient to have it in another room, so I re-installed it to use WiFi. Both worked very nicely. I do have a minor annoying problem that on one of my computers its showing up in Brother's utility program twice, I presume once as ethernet and once as Wifi, and I'm not sure how to fix that. But the only reason to really get into the utility is to check toner levels and if you have connection problems. The only problems I've had are:1. I was getting a vertical black line when it first started up, which would then fade after printing a few pages. I contacted tech support and they said this was likely due to a dirty corona wire, they directed me to a page on how to clean it, and indeed that fixed the problem with a few minutes of effort.2. I had one time that one of my computers couldn't talk to the printer. I rebooted the computer and then everything was fine and I've had no trouble since. So I don't know if that was just a one-time fluke or what.I've only owned the printer for a few weeks so I can't say anything about long-term reliability.I had that one tech support issue I mentioned above, I contacted them by leaving a message on their web site, and they responded in about a day with a solution that worked. So tech support seemed pretty good.
