Company Info: Owned and operated by U.S. Veterans. We have been certified by the VA as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. We are a husband-wife team and served in the Army and Marine Corps, respectively. We love America and we love homebrewing.
Our “why”: We are homebrewers and this business was born out of our simple desire to replace our broken gear with higher quality options. We live in the Blue Mountains (hence our mountain logo). We are hours away from our nearest LHBS (Local Homebrew Shop), so Amazon is our best option for replacement gear. But the options for homebrewing equipment seemed lackluster and low quality. So we decided to create our own and Brewing America was born in 2017.
Product Development: Quality and Performance. Brewing America is constantly looking at how we can bring the best homebrewing products to the masses. Our main focus is on hydrometer testing kits. We have a variety of hydrometers for homebrewers and distillers and they can be bought as kits with our super-awesome glass test jar and a stainless steel brush. We designed our borosilicate 3.3 glass test cylinder to solve the pain points we were having with using so much brew to take a test. We knew a 1-piece borosilicate glass tube was needed for quality of the product, scratch resistance and sanitation, product strength for distillers, and a potentially wide range of sudden temperature changes.

I like the clear glass test tube. It was easy to read. I received the package with one of the ends of the box partially crushed open. That was caused by Amazon. Thanks to your company and the way everything was packaged that helped the product arrive intact.

Quality. Glass. Accurate reading. Great little foam storage box to keep it in for safety. If the cardboard (around the foam) deteriorates over time, I might replace it with a custom wooden box to keep the foam in. It's that nice and think this set might outlive me. Great for my mead-making so far.

This hydrometer is very nice. It is easy to read and they give you great instructions on how to best read your specific gravity. The graduated cylinder is nice and heavy to put my wine in to measure. I have two different hydrometers and this one is the easiest to read in my red wine.

This hydrometer is the greatest I have used.I’ve had several hydrometers stop working on me for various reasons, including having the plastic break and let water in.This one works excellently and is made from high qualityu glass. You simply drop it into the accompanying glass tube and it just goes to work on its own.It also looks visibly nicer and cleaner than other available hydrometers. As far as hydrometers go, this is a great one to use.

This has to be one of the finest pieces of measuring glassware that I've received. Even after being banged up in shipping (see box photo), it survived intact.The test cylinder is *heavy* borosilicate glass (i.e., Pyrex). I was surprised when I picked it up. It's smooth and strong. With the bumper, this will probably last me forever.The hydrometer is comfortably heavy too. Obviously it can't be too heavy, but it doesn't feel like it would break without abuse. It clearly shows all 3 scales, Specific Gravity; Percent Sugar by Weight; and Potential Alcohol by Volume. So far, it does appear to be perfectly accurate, once correcting for temperature. Our house is always 72 to 74. There is a char included for exactly this. The Specific Gravity correction is +0.002, and the Brix correction is +0.4.If you lose your instructions, they have them on their site too.

This kit exceeded my expectations. Included was the hydrometer which had clear writing, a beaker and a scrubber. The bit that exceeded my expectations was the information card with the pre-calculated abv and formula so I could calculate myself. I would recommend if your looking for a good quality hydrometer for your home brewing.

While I still think the price is a bit steep, for what it is, I can't deny the quality and ease of use so to me it was worth the extra few bucks but if it were 20% cheaper I honestly think every homebrewer would own one. It's so much easier to read than a cheap hydrometer - it's like night and day because the scale is so much larger and being all glass it's crystal clear. The hydrometer itself appears to be made from thicker glass than the standard cheap hydro's you'll find at your LHBS which is nice to see and I love the fact that my samples now only require me to pull 125ml rather than 250ml.

It was a great kit to use. Unfortunately I only got to use it once as the first cleaning with the provided brush cleaner, broke off the top in a junk about the size of half a credit card. So gonna have to get another tube to keep using it. I think this wasn't as sturdy as they say. It also says it's dishwasher safe which makes me think it should not have broken off like it did.EDIT UPDATE: I'm raising this to 4 stars because the customer service is beyond excellent. Today I received a full refund for my purchase which I did NOT even ask for. They took the above and beyond initiative to have read my review and refund it. Not only is this great customer service, but I'm going to purchase another kit (maybe this one I had was just slightly defective) to give it another try and a second chance. Thank you. Well done Brewing America and Angela!
