It fit right on the 6x6 treated post, treated 6x6 post are actually 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 . did not have to shave any wood off the post and works great..

First of all the box doesn't fit a 6x6 post ? So we marked the length we needed on all 4 sides and then took a chain saw and run it about 1/8 of an inch all over on all sides , it will then slide on with the help of a hammer and be tight . We then simply tightened the nuts up with a 13mm socket . We predrilled our holes in the 4 holes provided and used 1 3/4 concrete grade screws with washers , otherwise the screws would fall through holes . You must drill out each hole the length of screw otherwise the screw will snap off , we was using a hammer drill . Even after the modifications to the 6x6 post , the porch looked great . I have to wonder why the manufacturer doesn't realize that their product does not just slide into the end of a 6x6 ?? How was this overlooked ? a 6x6 is actually 5.5 inches for those who didn't know .

The actual inside dimensions are not a true 6" x 6"If you are putting in a gazebo kit.. they are usually 6x6.. exactly... But that being said I should have measured twice and ordered once. Now I'm stuck with them.

Very sturdy and easy to install. Used for top installation on a redwood deck with additional wood blocking installed underneath the deck. Prior to installing, I was concerned as to whether or not it would be secure enough for the deck railing 12’ above the ground. Absolutely rock solid using supplied hardware. I considered using thicker screws at first, but found the supplied hardware totally sufficient.

Overall good product! It would have been great to have a hole in the bottom center so as a screw could be put into center of 6x6.This is truly 8" x8". Accurate description, but I wanted to place on an 8x8 board, slightly bigger (wood dimensions). Just be aware of this.Overall good product, consistent to description!
