Short version: Yes, I recommend this vertical pistol safe. It is compact, sturdy, and opens quickly.The primary reason for this safe is the protection against unauthorized access to the pistol (e.g. kids, visitors, thieves, etc.), while keeping it quickly accessible when needed. This safe does most of that well. The reason I say "most" is because where it is mounted determines how secure it will be.Attaching the safe to the bedside stand, closet wall, or under a shelf is only as secure as the material (e.g. wood, particle board, wallboard) and the screws/bolts holding it. This safe is quite secure by itself, but screwed to the nightstand it can be torn free. I suggest attaching to a more durable surface (e.g. bolted to a metal bed frame).The other comment is that the instructions, while large enough to see, they contain installation pictures of the black safe, on a black background, with only the person's hands visible. Also, the instructions do not mention that opening the safe with the key, it will not lock again unless the battery is installed. I didnt think I needed this but I was wrong. I feel more secure knowing my weapon is here but safely secured. It is easy to open with either feature. Installation looked fairly easy I had someone install it on my night stand for me. It is not that is is hard to install I hurt my hand. This is a definite must have for added safety.

This drop down handgun safe has a key as a back up.It makes access to my handgun, quick and easy, but keeps the pistol safely secure from the Littles.

This gun safe is nice and secure. Programming the fingerprints and numerical codes was straight forward and easy. It fits right in between the coat rack and front door perfectly.

Great security for a great price. I installed this under my desk at work. It was very easy to install and get operational. I’m able to easily store a full frame pistol inside. The fingerprint reader works great and I was able to program multiple fingers. There is a backup key just in case the scanner stops working. The hardware included worked perfect for the installation.

Typically, I am very hesitant getting non familiar brands when it comes to this sort of equipment. However, this is now the second safe I have gotten from SOOWAY due to their products being pretty darn good. As always impressed upon opening that they included the batteries and all the hardware I would need. I also got two physical keys for this type of safe which is always appreciated when everything I need is in the box and then some. This safe has a very rugged tough feel to it with the exterior being almost a bumpy black finish definitely a hardened steel safe. I love that it has multiple ways of entry. You could either use biometrics which I admittedly use the most, then you could use a key code if you prefer as that, or you have your physical keys which you could use as well just as fast, and all methods are great. Whatever method you use the bottom piece drops down immediately to reveal whatever your choice of home protection is. I will say, one bit of critique on this safe versus the first one as that was a little bit of a bigger one that opened from left to right to whereas this would open from top to down, I would have loved to see some sort of hydraulics or some sort of bungee system to where it doesn't drop down as hard. When I say that, what I mean is the weight of the safe itself where it drops it drops heavily but then when you have a firearm in there you have that added weight. I would like to see that improved in maybe a future redesign. however, for a single firearm safe which is what this is designed for, it's a slick safe it's very well done. Another bonus I have to say is the size of this safe. I do like its slim form factor cause not only are you able to fit a home protection firearm in here, but you could also have a box of ammo as well or an extra mag, if need be, but more importantly is the way it mounts and the options you have for mounting. The safe could be side mounted or top mounted and that's just the two basic ways, there's also a center screw (you can see in the picture) that can be manipulated to where you could even have it angled in particular ways so it doesn't have to necessarily be the up to down application but you can set it up to what is most convenient for you. An example would be if you'd rather pull back on the opening tray, you can you have that option. Options are super important to me especially when you're handling something so serious. In any case, once again this company passed with flying colors making a very discreet home protection safe that is convenient it can be mounted multiple ways to your preference and it will hold a small(compact), medium, or large firearm or sidearm. Adding three ways to open this safe you have the advantage of not only knowing that you can access your gear easily if something were ever to happen and you needed it but more importantly it's protected from others who do not need to be near something like that, whether children or people that are not familiar in using this type of gear. This safe has dual purposes in that regard. My bottom line is I obviously am impressed and like this safe. Again, it's the second one from this brand (SOOWAY) and it's a great rugged safe that has a great purpose and multiple ways to set up. I personally am impressed with the quality of the mechanism, the finish on the safe and aside from it being a very rugged hardened steel safe, it is heavy but not as heavy as I thought it would be. That said, I will give this 4 out of 5 stars as this product deserves it. This is a good product and if you are into EDC or home protection, this is an absolute must-have not only for safety first and then protection next. This is a product I would highly recommend.

I am delighted with this well made gun safe.This safe is solid and well made and installation was pretty straight forward. It's the perfect size for my 9mm and hunting knife, and there's still room left for some emergency cash and other valuables. There are two keys included if the battery should fail. It's secure and sturdy. A good value for the price I paid.
