The three screws are holding the dies tight. The handles look like they are welded on, so I assume the unit is steel not aluminum. Some heavy paint over the welds and die ring makes it difficult to assess how sturdy it really is. May update later on.

This is pretty good die holder, was using it to tap 1/2 rod ( with 1/2 - 13 thread ) and that takes a little torque, even with a fresh die. It held up, didn't bend or snap. and the three securing screws didn't let go of the die. It does what it's supposed to.

Bought this to replace the cheap die handle from my kit that the screws stripped. Its smaller and flimsier than my original but works so I am happy for the price.

Get one of these. Those cast pot metal ones that comes with most sets are gonna fail. This one won't let you down. It may appear kinda small, but it can take the torque. i put it on a 3/8"-16 x 1" die and threaded a 3/8" rod. It just wanted to keep going. The screws held up and didn't loosen. Get ya one, you won't be disappointed...!!!
