Horrible product !!!!!! Installed this product on my starter and reinstalled on mower . It barely made contact with fly wheel on mower and busted into peices. Would not buy !!!!

Install the new gear using the proper tools. Reinstalled the starter. And then try to start the motor. The gear blew up as soon as the gear meshed into the starter ring teeth.

The gear fit correctly but it striped out in 1 day like the material was soft..

Original Bendix lasted for about 4 years. This replacement is bad after two months of home use not commercial.

I only bought a single gear, but there are packages with as many as 10 for sale. This must be a common failure item.

A word of caution - I ended up buying two of these drive gears because I didn't realize until AFTER I had installed the first one that the root of my problem was not the gear but the fact that my drive belt to my mower deck had become frayed and had bound to one of the guides on the mower deck. When I replaced the gear, the engine started twice before destroying the plastic teeth on the brand new gear. The belt was preventing the engine from turning smoothly and put an additional load on the starter motor to turn the engine over - hence, the gear was destroyed again. I corrected the belt problem, replaced the gear again, and it's been working fine since then. My research online indicated that the gear was made of plastic intentionally so that you end up replacing a $10 item instead of a $100+ item (the starter motor).
