I took a chance on this switch. I have a 1993 Ford Ranger w/ the Ford 4.0 v6 and the Mazda M5OD manual transmission. My neutral SENSING switch (not the neutral safety switch in automatic transmissions) was literally discintigrating out from under me. What people typically do is simply plug the hole and cross wire the harness and go. I, being a little explorative and a bit of a perfectionist wanted to actually FIX the problem by replacing the switch. The trouble was Ford (yes the actual company that built the truck) didn't even know that this switch was in the truck. No parts book had it in there, no aftermarket company (NAPA, Autozone, etc.) could find an equivalent. It was looking pretty bleak, but then I decided to try and look in a mazda book. Sure enough they had switches that looked like the one from my truck, but they were always called something else. Well finally I got so fed up that I picked this one. It looked similar, seemed to have a matching thread pattern, performed the same function, and came from a similar transmission so I just ran with it. As it turns out, yes this actually worked! I was tentative about it though, so I never really torqued it down in my transmission as I didn't want to strip threads or royally screw it up any other way. As a result it kept backing out but never all the way. So about every couple months I'd go under my truck, hand tighten it back to where it was, and keep on trucking. To prove it would work though I had to hook it up to my diagnostic computer to make sure the code wasn't in the truck's computer anymore, and sure enough that code was gone.Long story short, YES this switch can replace the neutral sensing switch from an early 90's Mazda M5OD transmission found in early 90's Ford Rangers and Explorers with the 4.0 v6 engine.
