Just what it is supposed to be. I bit of a softer rod but I like that. On a key chain in pocket all the time and I practice with it when ever I can. Good rods for me.

These ferrocerium rods are perfect! The large diameter, and length make them easy to hold on to, and the lanyard hole is good for using with 550 or, as in my case, a great anchor for epoxy. I drilled a hole, just slightly larger than the diameter of the rod, into a piece of resin impregnated pine (fat wood). I then lightly scuffed the end of the ferro rod with very course sand paper, and set it in the “fat wood” with 5 minute epoxy. I now have a handle, and an emergency source of kindling. This rod throws absolute flames! It’s just soft enough to make curls or molten metal, but not soft enough to be used up in a short amount of time. It really is a bargain at this price!

This product works well and was very easy to generate sparks and fire.

Other raters were not wrong. I have now purchased multiple Bayite ferro rods for use, kits, and gifts because they give hot sparks for commercial and natural tinders and are a great size for ease of use in bad conditions. These work and last.

As it is with any "Ferro" rod, the black protective coating has to be scraped off enough to be able to scrape a good quality "striker" against the bare surface of the rod, such as the spine of a quality sheath knife or other sharp cornered steel object. With that in mind, I get ignition many times by a single or double strike across the Ferro rod directed into my "birds' nest" or other tinder. Low profile, light weight, easy to pack into a rucksack or other backpack, these will save enough time in prepping a campfire that you will have a blaze going in the time it takes other campers or outdoors guys to gather up enough dry tinder to start the firing up process!!
