These are the best boots I have ever owned. As a matter of fact, this is my 4th pair I have bought of the very same boots. That is how happy I have been with them. They are a little stiff at first but break in well and become super comfortable. My most recent pair lasted me 3 years.

I hesitated for a while before ordering this product as I was concerned about fit. I have a 4E foot and have peripheral neuropathy in my feet that results in sometimes extreme discomfort with footwear. These boots are EXACTLY what I needed. The extra wide fit is outstanding and I can wear these boots all day in complete comfort. I did expect I'd be returning them, and expected them to be like most others I'd tried, and that they just wouldn't be able to meet the requirements that I had for a wide and comfortable fit. These boots are protective, super light weight, and very very comfortable. I'm very impressed and they've become my go-to footwear, for work or anything else.Outstanding!

Got my Bates Ultra Lites w composite toe in today. I usually wear SWAT Tactical Side zips with composite toe because that is what my local military surplus store has. Just so you know, I wear boots 90% of the day, during weekend hikes, and even with suits. The gym I wear tennis shoes for running. SWAT boots are cheaper, last a year + a few months with everyday wear, but are good for the money. I like SWAT a lot, but my store sucks at stocking so I have to order boots anyways. Everyone says get Bates or Rocky. Rocky did not have composite toe in the most comparable style so I got Bates. These boots were about $25 dollars more than SWAT, but they are supposed to last twice as long. I usually wear my boots tight, I wear 11s but get 10 1/2 wide and break them in for a tight fit to prevent blisters on trail marches. I ordered 11s and they fit fine, a little tight on the sides but a little more toe room than I'm used to. I examined the sides, tread and stitching and it looks perfect, better than SWAT which has some manufacturers marks and loose thread sometimes. They came already laced, so I put them on immediately. The sole is rather stiff, but should relax after a while. That could give it more durability down the road. I am used to the SWAT cushion sole that looks more like a tennis shoe. The boots tend to roll inward when you walk in them, which is fine for me because my ankles roll outwards (hence why I wear high top boots). There is only one problem I have, the right boot squeaks! I tightened the laces, loosened them, walked around, still squeaks rather loudly with each and every step, like a dog toy. The squeak is coming from the outside, and is quite annoying. It may go away with some breaking in but is not very stealthy. If it gets to me too much, or someone mentions it, I may return them. I know its not supposed to do that because the left one doesn't squeak at all. Thats why it gets a 4 star. But other than the squeak, seems good, even the insole is rather comfortable. With some Foxriver fatigue fighter socks, should be good on trail marches.

I bought these boots because I needed something lightweight with a safety toe. These Boots are very well made and the zipper makes taking them on and off a breeze. I'm don't know how these are going to hold up in a constant work environment but so far so good. Size with a little large but this is okay as I normally use aftermarket insoles for comfort and added durability. There's plenty of room for my toes in the composite safety toe, something that is very important to me as safety toe work boots tend to be very constricting and we'll drive you a little bit nuts at times. Lasing and padding is great, eyelets are strong and overall is an outstanding boot. Tread is adequate and grips well but may wear prematurely in an extream work environment.

I have had very good results with Bates Tactical boots. I have a C width foot with almost no arch, so in all fairness I had insoles with a lot of arch support that I replaced the insoles with that came in the boots right off. Wore them to work where I broke them in and did not want any problems. I had none. They were great. Broke in quickly, with good grip and a shock absorbent sole. Composite toe so they do not feel heavy on your feet. With the side zipper, as they wear in you can tie them as loose/snug as you wish. I ordered D width and get great support and can wear a little thicker sock to protect from any chafing along with recessed eyelets mid way up the boot to allow for ankle flex . I highly recommend these for their performance if you are looking for a good tactical boot at a reasonable price. PK

These were some of the best boots I have ever owned, hands down, 4.75 stars. Comfortable right out of the box (heaven when Dr. Scholls Work Gel insoles are added). They kept my feet dry during 16+ hours of wear in Afghanistan and right before I went out we had a massive snow storm at home, I know these are not advertised as waterproof on this site but the only things dry on me after digging out my car were my feet. Also, they were easy to take off and put on quickly with the side zipper while still keeping a good fit, a very nice feature when you are in a rush. The reason for the loss of points is that these only lasted one trip before the sole started to pull away from the shoe (it was a vigorous trip though) and the toe area was quite scuffed up, one boot had a hole in the surface of the leather, again though, I'm tough on these.A great buy and I will definitely get these again.

I am pleased with this purchase. This is my second pair of these boots. The first pair wore well and provided long term comfort. The convenience of being able to wear them through metal detectors is a real plus. (I have to go though security on a daily bases). The side zipper also adds convenience. The 90 buck and change price with free shipping was the best total price that I found on the internet. 05/2/2011 Update: I just purchased my forth pair of these boots, again for $90 plus change including shipping. I have worn safety toe work boots for over thirty years and these are the most comfortable I have ever had. On the job (in an industrial environment) I walk around a lot on hard concrete and asphalt floors and frequently climb ladders. A pair of these boots consistently lasts me about 14 months then the inner lining rips out and the heal cup breaks apart. It is always the right boot, always the heal. This makes it difficult to get the boot off as my foot heal catches on the liner. When this happens I do a repair with duct tape then order a new pair. If it were not for the liner ripping out I think I could get many more months of constant use before I wore out the sole. I have talked to other coworkers that also like this boot and they have similar experience with them. The 14 month life span is okay for me as my employer will pay for one pair of safety shoes a year and these are not horribly expensive for nonmetallic safety shoes.
