Heavy lifting for an older person. Make sure to measure as it is a large piece. Is sturdy and fits well in a larger walk in shower.

Albeit purchased 4 years ago, this bench did not stand the test of time and fell apart. Literally, while I was sitting on it just failed and I fell, luckily nothing damaged and all ok since in the shower. It was cared for well, door was kept open when not in use to dry off and yet in time it literally rotted and fell apart. I reached out to the company and their solution was $10 off if I bought a new one. My decision was to buy from a different company with hopefully a better product and for sure better customer service should there be a big issues. (I forgot to mention the feed also bleed rust onto the shower floor).

I love this seat. It's very sturdy and good quality wood. The color is beautiful and it's the perfect size to fit in my small bathroom space. I don't plan on using it for the shower, just as a seat next to the tub.

I don’t know about anyone else but when I get out of the shower there is only one place in my bathroom available to sit down to dry my feet and to me that place is meant for sitting down for an entirely different purpose. The last thing I want to do is sit on a hard slippery plastic seat cover while my body is dripping wet. So for years I’ve wanted to get one of these wood seats to put right next to my tub. Everything was right for it, I have the perfect spot for it that easily accommodates its twenty-four inch width. And the design is a perfect match for a tall bamboo linen shelf that I’ve already had for a while. This seat is just deep enough to sit on comfortably without taking up a lot of room and there is a handy shelf below for a spare towel and two handles that can make it easier to move for cleaning or to hang a washcloth on.Note that I am describing using this as seat outside the tub. I am in no way discrediting the possibility that such a seat could be used inside my bathtub but it doesn’t fit, what’s more I have never lived in any place ever where the bathtub isn’t the normal standard size and I don’t think a seat this size would fit in any one of them. I have never even considered showering while sitting down but I get why it may be easier for some people. If I did need such a seat in my tub though I think I would choose one made from rust free aluminum with an easy to clean vinyl seat. I must have looked at thirty or more different wood seats of this style and I did not see one in which people complained about it getting moldy or covered with mildew. I think that would be expected from something made of wood so I can’t see why someone would buy one knowing that it would probably get moldy.HOW GOOD IS ITLet’s get to the reason you are reading this. Is this thing any good. In my lifetime I’ve assembled more furniture, what they call RTA, than any stockboy at Ikea. I’ve learned most of the tricks, but there’s always something new to learn. I can spot as soon as I see something if it is good or bad. This piece is good. Whether it is solid wood or not is a play on words because these days it’s almost impossible to buy solid hardwood furniture unless you pay thousands of dollars. What you usually find is something made out of highly compressed sawdust wrapped in a realistic looking covering of woodgrain vinyl. The other option is something made out of splinters of a woodlike material that is glued together and also highly compressed, but for all intents and purposes it is basically real wood. It is the advantage of being much stronger than the sawdust, which is typically called names like particleboard, chipboard, MDF, etc. which can snap in two or deform when exposed to moisture. You obviously wouldn’t want to use that stuff in the bathroom. The good news is that this is made from the better option and it looks, feels and is as strong as many hardwoods.The second thing I notice is that typically RTA furniture comes in dozens of pieces with impossible to follow instructions. To their credit this piece is mostly pre-assembled so you only have to deal with six pieces, which fit together like a glove. They don’t use those virtually useless little pieces of hardware that crack the wood and fall apart when you tighten them. This piece uses metal receptacles that are pre-installed and tightened with an allen wrench, which is included.WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOWThe finished piece is smoothly sanded, but not fine furniture grade, that fault seems to be very common with Chinese made wood furniture. Also, the edge of the seat is a hard ninety degrees, in other words a sharp edge. I asked the seller why some of their photos in their ad show that edge with a finely beveled edge and he answered that those photos are 3D photoshop images and not real. I wish they were less sharp because most people who use a seat like this are doing so in their bare skin.You should also know that the lower shelf has an upper and a lower side. The lower side is the one where the slats are recessed about a quarter of an inch. I posted photos to illustrate all this.There are a couple of other things I can share with you that hopefully will make your assembly easier and your finished product the best it can be. Here they are.PRO TIP #1I always assume that I am never going to disassemble RTA furniture so I always use a high quality woodworker’s glue like Gorilla on every place where bare wood meets bare wood. I have pieces that I’ve owned for twenty years and they are still as solid as they were the day I built them. This is a best practice that I highly recommend.PRO TIP #2Never ever tighten each fastener as you assemble RTA furniture despite what the instructions say. Leave them slightly loose until everything is fully put together and then stand the piece on a solid non-carpeted surface to true it up. That term simply means to twist it and adjust it until everything is squared off and solid. For taller pieces I like to push them against a wall before I tighten everything. For this piece I put min in the location in my bathroom where it will live and then tightened everything and to make doubly sure I leaned on it with my forearm to simulate having some weight on it.YES OR NOThis is one of the better bath benches I’ve seen and definitely worth their asking price compared to most of the others. If you are considering teak wood benches they do have some advantages if they are properly stained and made but a good one can cost five times more than this one. If you have expensive tastes and high quality furnishings teak may be worth considering but these days it’s a gamble to find one that is actually made from hardwoods and not compressed like this one, in which case it really doesn’t have any major advantage. I did a lot of research and it took me a full three months to decide which one to buy. There were ones with a lot more reviews but I wonder if some of those were suspect, so of them all this was my choice. I hope this information helps you make your own choice.

Fits my purpose in the bathroom, where I can sit & look after my grandchildren whilst in the bath, can’t sit on the side of the bath.

I must admit I was hesitant to purchase this stool/bench for the shower. I've owned bamboo benches in the past and not had the greatest of luck - they are both gone for 1 of 2 reasons - reoccurring stubborn mold or questionable quality & just plain discomfort. But I am persistent and depend on a shower bench for more reasons than some might (keep reading). And I occasionally use emojis in my reviews (where appropriate😉).While the box mine came in didn't seem to be as strong as I thought it would be, the pieces were wrapped well & undamaged. When it came to the actual bench, I wish I had found this one the 1st time around. I could tell from the beginning the quality & craftsmanship were better even though I didn't pay anymore for this one than I did the former shower bench failures🙄. These edges were smooth, the weight was solid but not cumbersome (important as I have arthritis in my hands/joints), and manufacturing quality control worked - no separated seams, questionable wood choices, or flawed finishes. It felt like a piece that will last a long time.So, no missing pieces and assembly was a breeze. Even though I was tired due to days of packing/moving and have issues sometimes with strength & dexterity in my hands, it was done in under 15 min (estimate). It may be common sense, but just in case, be sure to WAIT on fully tightening the screws at the seat of the bench until you have placed the shelf and begun securing it to the legs. This way you can avoid having to go back to unscrew the legs from the base because the shelf isn't sitting properly. Thankfully everything aligned and there were no gaps or wobbles; it is definitely solid. Regarding the size, its spot-on! You can next to you, or shift & twist without worrying you will somehow tip and need that "I've fallen and can't get up!😲" personal monitoring alarm. As you can see in the image posted it fits well into our 3'x4' shower. I store very little on the shelf simply due to my ability to safely reach items (the last thing I want is a room full of firefighters trying to extricate my contorted naked body from a small glass cubicle that will not make me look like a better version of myself!!😒😳).Lastly, I have to say something about comfort. As someone who has severe fibromyalgia triggered by Lyme Disease AND a significant back injury that resulted in back surgery/placement of pain stimulator in hip for low/mid back pain, comfort is everything🥳. I depend on this bench not only for ease of shaving my legs or softening my feet, but also for days that I can not stand for long periods due to muscle fatigue/weakness or just need to sit as my body's muscle or joint pain has flared. As the base (seat) is curved, I don't have the often significant discomfort😢 felt when sitting on a hard & flat surface. And the booster handles on each side make me feel more secure & stable when getting up (that's what I call them!). Overall, it's just easier on my back.All of this to say that at this point I am extremely hopeful I have found the shower bench that works for me AND doesn't make me feel like I am in my 80s even though I am 1/2 that age😬. While I am giving it a 10/10 screenshot for the several times I have used it(we just moved), I can't address the mold issue as thoroughly as I'd like just due to short time of use. On a side note, we do leave the shower door open when not in use to allow for air circulation into the shower (my husband says it helps🤔) and when I remember, I do try to squeegee off the seat/shelf.If anything changes I will update my review! For now, life with this bamboo bench is good! Fingers crossed that it's a long-term relationship...😁
