once this awning arrived, I discovered that the provided mounting toggle bolts would not work for attaching this to a traditionally vinyl sided building. The bolts are made for attaching to masonry such as brick. I had to get some 1/2"x 2 1/2" lag bolts. Other than that, I like this item, assembly was easy even though there were 2 different assembly instructions provided.

It looks nice, but it was short the hardware to assemble and install that was included was missing. 3 months later I still have not received the hardware after contacting them.

My only concern is that with direct sunlight the clear plexiglass awning might actually amplify the sun and heat up the side of the house or melt the siding. I've seen awnings do this. But in all my testing so far, the awning is efficient at deflecting sunlight and lowering the temperature quite dramatically. But it also lets in light, doesn't darken your window at all.The biggest challenge actually is determining where to mount it - high enough to block the summer sun but low enough to allow in the winter sun. It's basically just a plexiglass sheet and a metal frame. The frame is aluminum, which should be resistant to rust and corrosion, and it has a coat of paint on the outside for additional protection. It looks good, it's sleek and modern. It's angled to keep water away from the house, and has a drip edge to direct the water instead of splashing it everywhere. Due to the smooth surface and angle, it shouldn't accumulate much snow or ice.You basically just screw the frame together, which holds the plexiglass in place, then figure out how you're going to attach the awning (most people will screw it directly onto the window frame). The sturdiness of it completely depends on how you attach it.Make sure to triple check your measurements, and order several inches wider than the actual window.
