If you are on the cusp of sizing, I would go down a size. You cannot return it because it’s a medical product. I don’t like where the Velcro quick straps connect to the back of the ankle. I would have preferred a full lace up boot instead of this one, but it does work.

I am a farmer on uneven ground. Months ago I twisted my ankle and had it x-rayed, it's a sprain. They wrapped it with a bandage and sent me on my way. After a few weeks, I started trying different braces, and what a disaster. No support, I kept rolling my ankle again. A friend told me about this brace and I looked it up. It was quite expensive so I tried some look-a-likes. What a waste of time. So glad Amazon lets you return things that don't work or are just plain uncomfortable to wear, or that I couldn't wear with a shoe on. This brace is a bit bulky with shoes but it works with both my sneakers and some of my boots. I am stepping in holes and yes it does have some give, and I can feel it, for the most part, it really makes a huge difference. I can run and chase my goats with it too. I do wish I had bought the smaller one because my swelling has gone down and now it is a bit big.Try it, it is really worth the extra money and getting the right thing the first try.

This works very well as a soft but supportive ankle device. After a severe sprain I no longer needed the air cast, but needed something to support my ankle. I purchased this for walking. I am a dog walker and needed the extra support. The best thing about the ASO is that it fits very comfortable into a hiker or sneaker. The bottom is flat with an opening at the heal when straps are wrapped correctly. I think it is meant more for support after an injury. I also find that it keeps me from rolling my ankle when walking on uneven ground. Worth the money.

The ASO speed lacer stability brace worked immediately! Wearing it I had no post-walk foot or ankle pain for the first time. My podiatrist recommended this brace but had I known it was a woman/nurse owned small business I would have chosen it anyway. The Velcro speed-lacing system is ideal and makes it simple to tighten or loosen the brace around my foot. I can wear my brace in my existing Hoka Bondi 7 shoes which is great. I had questions before buying the brace which were promptly answered by customer service which I greatly appreciated. Highly recommend this brace.

I've been looking for an ankle brace with maximum support and movement for running. My left ankle broke six years ago and I've had issues with my ankle six years before it broke. When my ankle broke I had open reduction surgery and became a cyborg with titanium implants. If I had been using this brace four years before my ankle break then it might not have broken. I was using what's called a soccer style brace by Mueller. It was excellent for support but was difficult to get on and off.I compared the non speed lace version of this brace by ASO to Mueller's The One. I found The One to possibly fit better as a small because I had support from a smaller size. The One has a thicker padded tongue and to my knowledge wasn't available in a speed lacing. The speed lacing is definitely a bonus. I can get this on and off quickly. The tongue on the ASO is less robust than The One so side by side it feels like you're getting less, but for a better fit there is less material and less bulk. ASO relies less on the boot and more on the tight fit of the straps for support. The One doesn't rely more on the boot but it does have a thicker boot.If you're looking for good movement and maximum support then either The One, ASO, and the McDermit are all good. The ASO speed lacer has a competitive advantage by offering the same support while also being easy to get on and off. If your ankle has less range of motion and/or if you want to spend less time getting your brace on and off, then The ASO speed lacer is the best.
