The DUALZDirect provides two independent high quality totally passive interfaces that let you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced inputs through high performance audio isolation transformers. Each of the high impedance single-ended 1/4″ inputs is converted by a transformer into an isolated, balanced, low impedance signal output. The DUALZDirect’s audio transformers have an extremely flat and wide frequency response and can handle high signal levels. This gives the DUALZDirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high noise environments. The input ATTENUATOR switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the input THRU jacks allows for tapping off of your signal chain. The GROUND LIFT switches let you totally separate the input and output signal grounds, when appropriate, to isolate two systems, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise. What further sets the DUALZDirect apart from other “DI” boxes are its extended features and versatility. We have added switchable low pass FILTERs that cut out all very high frequency interference. These Bessel filters on the outputs are placed out of the audio range and are primarily intended to reduce radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system. The filters are very effective in reducing any digital computer noise artifacts when using the DUALZDirect as an interface between a computer-based audio workstation and your monitors. The PHASE INVERT switches, while not normally included with your “run of the mill” DI box, have been added to allow you to switch signal polarity right at the source. This feature is especially handy when you are combining a direct tap with a microphone feed in the mix. The compact black-anodized all aluminum case and it’s passive design allow the DUALZDirect to provide years of trouble free service in Live Sound, Permanent/Fixed Install, D.J., and virtually any PA application. It’s full feature set, rugged construction, and high-end specifications make the DUALZDirect the obvious choice.

after using this item now, for a few months ..its inputs 1& 2 are to close together to use wireless inputs..and on stage the labels are hard to read

Well-built, small and sturdy. However, after a few usages, it started giving me audio problems. Frankly, it has too many needless buttons and I think they started malfunctioning, because my sound would suddenly change during live gigs. The change was most noticeable in my ear monitors, and I ended up giving the unit away because I didn't want to deal with it. D.I. Boxes don't really need to have "DB" buttons or "Invert" settings unless you're using it with a pad or a laptop, but even then, it's really unnecessary. Bottom Line: If you're a gigging musician who just needs an interface between your instrument and the mixer, I would steer clear of this D.I. box and get something simpler without all the bells and whistles. Personally, I will not buy this product again.

This DI box is amazing. A clear difference in not only show quiet my signal is, but the quality has improved. I use my keyboard through this for gigs and my instrument has never sounded better. Whatever preamps and transformers are in there has my keyboard sounding night and day compared when I was gigging before just plugging my board quarter inch into piano amp.

Built very well. I like the rubber armor on what could be sharp edges. This box will not slip and slide on a stage. There is a very small amount of crosstalk between channels (order of -100dB?). You won't hear it but at the really high preamp gain levels needed for guitars with passive pickups, you might see it on your level meters. Absolutely not an issue for live sound (our use). For studio recording I would use single channel interfaces, possibly with dedicated preamps. There are a lot of buttons to select pad levels, ground lift, etc. We don't use any of them because we go from this box into a mixer with highly configurable preamp gain. So I can't comment on how well these bonus features work.

I have tested a number of similar D.I. boxes and this one is my favorite.Firstly this direct box is incredibly small considering that it houses two channels.I was also impressed by it's frequency response which Ranges less than a dB from 10Hz-30kHzBuild quality is also excellent.Would highly recommend.

So far this stereo di is working great for our piano. Beats having to run two separate direct boxes for a stereo channel.

I love this DI box. I play both bass and acoustic guitar - I plug both guitars into this (end of pedal chain, with the shortest possible 1/4" cables) and then run XLR cables to the mixer. Sounds like a clean signal to me - much better than long 1/4" cables. The unit is nice and small - fits into a side pouch on a backpack. No power required - plug and play. Bass players seem to always get pushed into a corner or way off to the side so this gives me a chance to have a clean signal to the PA.

Economical, sounds good, nice size. I'm using it for a stereo send from electronic drums, keyboards, etc., so I don't know how the cross talk would be for 2 discrete signals, but it sure makes setups neater and easier than grabbing 2 boxes and stacking them together, etc.

I probably purchased the wrong DI Box. This box is well designed, well made and works fine, BUT... I didn't realize that it would reduce the signal LEVEL so much !!!! From reading the description, I though we could use this to take an unbalanced ~ 2 Volt Line-Level Signal and convert it to 600 ohm balanced OUT, to send to a powered speaker that is far from the mixing board. We did this, but there was not enough Signal to drive the powered speaker. I call A.R.T. and asked a Tech about the [Turns Ratio] of the transformers and he wasn't sure, but if it is anything like the Zin-Zout Ratio (50,000 Ohm to 600 Ohm, or less), it will reduce the Voltage OUT by something like 83 times, so 1 Volt IN gives 12 mV OUT (which for us isn't useful). It would take 40 Volts IN to get 0.5 V OUT. To his credit, the Tech suggested that for our application, what we wanted a different DI box, which ART also makes. It turns out that they make a great many different versions, for all sorts of applications, so I recommend either a visit to the ART Website (or a call to Tech Support), to be certain that the DI Box you pick can do what you want. - Donald Coley -
