I recently got a nice Hartel Minstrel Banjo that had gut strings that needed replacing. Thes got the bill nicely. Wound 4th and tone is pretty good for the type of playing I do. Much cheaper than real gut.

Not quite like gut, but close. Strings have a deep, warm tone and once broken in (around a week) stay in excellent tune... as much as a banjo can.Remember, these must be used at least ~1 whole step (two semitones) below standard tuning!

Takes forever to break in but entirely worth the wait

I wanted these strings so that I could produce a softer sound. Unfortunately, the 5th string could not withstand the tension needed to produce the proper sound. I do not recommend these strings for a five-string banjo.

The AQ-7B minstrel banjo strings used to come with a wound 4th string. I liked the crunchy sound in the base notes and had previously returned a set - marked "classical banjo" - because it was all nylgut. I re-ordered hoping to get the minstrel strings and they just arrived - all nylgut, no wound 4th, marked "classical banjo" on the permanent envelope with a sticker slapped on reading "AQ-7B/AQUILA NEW NYLGUT MINSTREL". IDK if Aquila has discontinued/changed the specs, but I can't use these strings. Returning, 2nd time.

I love, love, love these strings. They make such a difference from stock strings. I switched to these from Labella Nylgut strings, and although I still like those, these are much more accesible. If you have a short scale banjo I cannot recommend these more.
