They do work great to control a single device. But if that device is a pump, don't put just one of these in place to adjust the flow. You don't want to block your pumps output air flow severely. This can cause a premature pump failure. Put in a Y adapter on the pump output and put one of the Y's outputs in line with the device to be controlled and another of these valves on the other Y output to bleed off (adjust) the excess air the pump produces. So you will open both valves completely to start. You then adjust the combination of the two valves till you have just the right amount going to your air device and the other valve will serve to release the excess pressure from the pump. Or you can send the bleed off air to yet other devices. You may have to redo this every few weeks as the pumps can vary from day to day in how much air they can produce. This will make your air pumps last longer and be less likely to wear out the rubber cup on the pump that makes air flow. They do seem to work and seal well enough but they are just cheap plastic so don't tighten them too tightly or they'll strip the threads on the valve.

Extremely happy with my purchase. I used it right out of the box, cut a little piece of my tube and attached to it and to the air pump. I can now easily control the amount of bubbles my sponge filter and my air stone makes.Buy it! Such a good value!
