In established aquariums, ammonia should be tested weekly to make sure it is at a safe level. This kit contains 25 test strips and reads 0-6 ppm (mg/L) of ammonia in fresh and saltwater. Just dip and read to measure ammonia in one easy step. Quickly and easily check your aquarium's ammonia levels with API AMMONIA TEST STRIPS. Fish continually release ammonia into the aquarium through their gills, urine and solid waste. Uneaten food and decaying organic matter also add ammonia to the water. Ammonia is toxic to fish and can cause gill damage, stress and death. Regular testing is recommended because ammonia levels can build quickly due to fish waste and uneaten food. Simply dip the test strip into the water, then compare the results with the precise, easy-to-read color-coded chart to determine if any action should be taken. The chart includes recommendations on how to treat the water and neutralize ammonia. Safe for use in fresh and salt water. With API Aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For over 50 years, API has been creating innovative, research-driven solutions that make it easier to care for your fish and aquarium. API Aquarium Treatment Supplies are designed to work in conjunction with each other to provide best results to control algae, promote healthy bacterial growth and help control and cure fish diseases and conditions such as ich and fin rot. They work to provide a safe, hospitable environment for fish such as tropical community fish, cichlids, goldfish and more. With API, you can spend more time admiring your fish, and less time scrubbing your tank. Make sure to use all products as directed in order to ensure the best results.

You need to be aware you are going to always get a reading due to the 2 different types of Ammonia. Not both are harmful.

I liked these strips, no different than any other name brand. Did the job I expected.

The test square is completely covered, front and back with plastic, so the water never actually comes in contact with it. I was able manipulate it enough to get the water on the square and it shows dangerous levels of ammonia. I tested the strips on plain drinking water after manipulating the plastic enough to get the water to contact the test square and that too showed dangerous levels of ammonia. It was a waste of money

Nothing special, they work. Be careful on how much you use because you only have 25 of them which can go by FAST.

I started using these as a quick and easy test for the hospital tank I set up. It comes back 0 when it makes sense. It also tested higher values which made sense as well:1) anemone looked like it was going to die in my display tank, I put it in my hospital tank before leaving for the weekend. Sadly it died. I tested the water when I got home and it was maxed out on the chart for ammonia (makes perfect sense for dead nem)2) I had a firefish die in the QT tank - must have been overnight. For a much smaller fish, having died recently, it reading around a .5 was probably reasonable and showed it could detect some mid range results as wellI wish they were cheaper but they seem to be a fairly worthwhile rapid test. I’m ordering another set now

I bought these along side API 5 in 1 strips so I would be able to read all the necessary water quality readings. They seem pretty accurate so far, and are super easy and quick to use. I love these compared to the liquid ones with drops of chemicals. Way faster and way easier to read! I would definitely recommend these for water testing!

Unless you are in incredible lighting, it's very VERY difficult to tell the difference between some of the pH levels which can be quite detrimental for your fish... Satisfied overall, but the pad is so small, that it's near impossible to tell the difference between 0.5 and 1.0

Reasonably good accuracy for a test strip (when compared to the results of a master test kit). It's quick and easy which means we'll actually test more regularly. We will buy this again.

Very easy to use for a quick water quality test. May not be as accurate as a chemical test, but lets you find out immediately if there is a problem with your tank. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with multiple tanks such as I do.
