Product Description

Q1: Will these soft-close struts fit my box?

A1: Apexstone soft close struts will be compatible with your box if it meets all three of the following size requirements (all are essential):

  1. Lid size: The Side Length must be between 10 and 30 inches.
  2. Lid weight: The lid must weigh between 10 and 33 pounds.
  3. Box depth: The depth of the box must be at least 10 inches.

Q2: How to know the lid weight?

A2: Here are three ways to find out your lid’s weight:

  • Contact the box seller to get the lid's weight.
  • Remove the lid from the box and weigh it on a scale for an accurate measurement.
  • Use a stick, placing the stick in the lid center, then weigh it on a scale for an approximate weight.

Q3: How many struts do I need to install?

A3: The number of struts depends on the weight of the lid:

l For lids weighing less than 15 lbs, install one strut.

l For lids weighing between 15 and 33 lbs, install two struts.

Q4: Can I install these soft-close struts on a lid that weighs less than 10 lbs?

A4: No, a lid that weighs less than 10 lbs is too light. The struts may prevent lid from closing properly.

Q5. Can I install these soft-close struts on a lid that weighs over 33 lbs?

A5: No, a lid weighing more than 33 lbs is too heavy. The soft-close function won’t work properly, and the lid may slam shut or damage the struts quickly.

Q6: Can I install these soft-close struts on a lid with a side length larger than 30 inches?

No, if the side length is over 30 inches, the soft-close function won’t work properly, which will shorten the struts' lifespan and cause them to break quickly.

Q7: Can I install these soft-close struts on a lid with a side length less than 10 inches?

A7: No, a side length under 10 inches doesn’t provide enough space for proper installation.

Q8: Can I install these soft-close struts on a lid with a box depth less than 9 inches?

A8: No, a box depth under 9 inches doesn’t provide enough space for installation.

Q9: Why can't the lid be compressed?

A9: The lid may not close if it’s too light. Make sure your lid weighs more than 10 lbs.

Q10: Why is the lid slamming shut in the last three to four inches?

There are two possible reasons for the lid slamming shut:

  1. l The lid may be too heavy or too large. Ensure the lid weighs less than 33 lbs and has a side length under 30 inches.
  2. l Make sure the struts are installed vertically, with the metal rod facing up, not horizontally.

Q11: Can a soft-close strut support or lift the lid?

A11:No, soft-close strut acts as damper. It does not hold up, support, or lift the lid.

For Flat Top Lid: HOW TO INSTALL APEXSTONE SOFT CLOSE GAS STRUTS?

installation of the flat lid

1. Open the top panel or lid to the desired open angle.

2. Prepare a pen, determine the Mounting Points.

a) Measure 9 inches vertically from the box edge, then 2.75 inches towards the inner side of the box, and mark Point A as the Lower Mounting Point.

b) Measure 4 inches vertically from the hinge direction on the cover to a position that maintains alignment between the upper and lower mounting points. Then mark Point B as the Upper Mounting Point.

3. Drill the hole we marked, install the round bracket at lower mounting Point A. Install the rectangle bracket at upper mounting Point B.

4. Prepare the gas strut with the Rod UP for optimum lubrication and best slow closing performance.

5. Attach the strut to the ball mount by snapping the strut end fittings onto the ball studs.

6. Repeat this process on the opposite side to complete the installation.

7. Test the performance by opening and closing the lid cover several times to ensure smooth operation and secure joint connections.

Got this for an old wooden toy box to improve the safety so my kids wouldn’t smash their fingers. It was very easy to install and self explanatory which is good because the directions were absolutely pointless. Seems very sturdy and closes very very slowly so there’s very limited chance of fingers getting smashed.

We installed this on a wooden trunk to keep the lid from slamming closed. It comes with 2 different attachment points: one end has a ball on a round plate, the other end is on a right angle bracket. The end with the right angle bracket is a little flimsy and bends easily. For example, when the lid is closing, if someone were to push the lid down to force it to close faster, the angle bracket bends over. The opposite is true: if someone were to open the lid of the box too fast the bracket bends the other direction. Over time, this slight bending back and forth is eventually going to cause that little bracket to break off. You can see the bending in the photo. Minus one start for the low quality bracket. If the bracket metal were twice as thick then this item would be perfect. I installed two of these; one on each side of the trunk. That way, if one of them breaks, the other one serves as a backup. I also agree with what others have said: most of the 1 star reviews are people who are bad at math, measuring, and angles. If you read the instructions and install accordingly, these work great.

Installed both on a wooden storage bench. The lid closes softly/slowly and then unfortunately closes quickly/abruptly the last 1/4 of the way.
