The AmScope B120C-WM compound binocular microscope has pairs of 10x widefield and 25x widefield eyepieces, a forward-facing nosepiece with four DIN achromatic objectives, Brightfield (BF) LED illumination, a 1.25 NA Abbe condenser, and a double-layer mechanical stage. The Siedentopf binocular head has interchangeable pairs of 10x widefield and 25x widefield eyepieces with 53 to 77mm Siedentopf inter-pupillary adjustment, a fixed 30-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and a 360-degree rotation capability to provide a more comprehensive view and enable sharing. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. The forward-facing nosepiece has 4x, 10x, 40xS (spring), and 100xS (spring, oil) DIN achromatic objectives that combine with the eyepieces to provide color correction of magnified images at five magnifications. The 40xS objective is spring loaded to prevent slide damage when focusing. The 100xS spring-loaded oil objective provides increased resolution over a standard objective. A compound microscope is used for inspection and dissection of specimens when two-dimensional images are desired.

The microscope has lower (diascopic) Brightfield illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background. LED illumination provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The 1.25 NA Abbe condenser can be adjusted to control the distance of the light from the stage and has an iris diaphragm to optimize the amount of light illuminating the specimen. The double-layer mechanical stage, with 1mm stage divisions, locks the slide into place and provides precise slide manipulation along the X- and Y-axis to allow coordinates to be recorded, enabling the viewer to return to a specific location on the slide. Separate coarse and fine focus knobs speed focusing. The enamel-coated cast-steel body is durable and resistant to stains and corrosion. The microscope comes with The World of the Microscope book.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

Was very hesitant to purchase from this company as I read good and bad reviews and they seem to lack in the customer service department. My 6th grader, who is interested in marine science and microbiology wanted a microscope for Christmas. The one I would have purchased was about $589 if I knew for a fact that she would continue down that path. So I compromised and ordered this one as it seemed as though it was fairly good quality and features for the price. That way if she didn't use it much, I wouldn't be fuming about the expensive one sitting in the closet unused. This scope, although from China, does include the fine and coarse focusing as well as the movable stage and the variable eye pieces which are all great at this price point. Great magnification options as well. Does take some getting used to if you have not used a scope before. Make sure that you email AmScope directly and have them email you a user manual as it does not come in the box. I found this suggestion on another forum and I am so glad that we had the manual when it was opened on Christmas.I read everything and learned a lot about microscopes along the way. There are not a lot of products between the cheap, useless ones and the high quality ones. This one seems to be working well and has enough features to do the things my child is interested in. They have already looked at algae, blood, mold, pond water and other things. There are several different packages of this model. The letters after the - tell you what comes in the box. This one has the book which is helpful for beginners. There are others that have blank slides and slide sets with them. Slides can be purchased very inexpensively on Amazon so it wasn't a good deal to buy the one that included the other stuff.Make sure you order the wipes to clean the lenses and the slides to keep it clean and functioning well the same time you order the scope.

Ok soo, I just received my microscope in the mail a couple hours ago. Its my 1st microscope, although I am a biology major so I know a little bit about microscopes from using them in bio labs. From what I can tell so far, it is very good quality. It came fast and was packaged very well. I still have to figure out how to use the immersion oil for the 100x objective lens. FYI The oil is included with this microscope. Ok, what worries me is there is not protection the objective lenses from smashing into my slides. Also the light smashes into the slides as well. Theres no barriers and I'm afraid I'm going to mess up the lens. Overall, I LOVE MY MICROSCOPE!! Very good price for such a great product. The book that comes along, I've only glanced through it, but seems helpful.
