This is by far the best over-all black light. LEDs are trash. I tried the normal lamp light bulb black light cfl from sunlite, and they put out more visible light than this product, but would be my second choice. I also tried a 17w Walmart 24” tube that is very close to this and cost 4X less, but puts out too much visible purple light, and doesn’t put out much.This cfl has the best wavelength and spectrum for eye popping colors while remaining dark.

Good black light. I hope they don't stop making these anytime soon because LED black lights give off too much visible light making it seem like it does not glow as much. Fluorescent black lights give off the true black light effect. Fluorescent black lights are becoming harder to find these days.

I'd purchased two of these lights over a year ago and they were both on about 30 hours a week. One of the lamps failed. I'd swapped bulb out, but it was the unit itself, probably the ballast. Good overall though, enough that I bought the same replacement.

I wanted old school black light and this sure looks like one. I got the 48 inch and I don't think the 48 inch is worth it. I used to have one half the size that really emitted black light and covered the whole room. When I plug in this 48 inch one in a smaller room than the one I used to use half the size, it doesn't cover the whole room. I was fine with jiggling bulb until it works or snaps back into position but the fact that this is a 48 inch old school black light should cover my whole room which is fairly small. It may be better if you get two small ones or three small ones to cover a small room and distribute around room instead of having one big one in one place. This black light illuminated stuff within 3 feet, anything beyond that was not illuminated. I did research and still had decided on this one, as I found out the old school black lights true emitters of blue light or black light are t8 bulbs. But aside from product the shipping was great, it is well packaged to not break during shipping which I was worried about. Amazon has done a great job wrapping this and shipping this. It had like foam wrapped around the bulb, they way it was packed is great..

Works properly as a black light. Many of the LED versions do not actually provide the black light effect.

First, I had to ask for a replacement product since I received one whose bulb was completely broken inside the package. BUT, I was amazed by the second unit I received. I use black lights to identify pigments and varnishes (I'm an art conservator). I needed a long bulb for photodocumentation and this one definitely does the trick. I wish the cord was a bit longer but that's a minor setback. I'm not a pro of black lights in general, but I feel like this product is pretty cheap, and looks pretty neat also. Would buy it again. Also, great customer support!!

Mittwoch bestellt, heute (Freitag) angekommen.Kabellänge ist in Ordnung und durch den Reflektor am Gehäuse geht weniger Licht verloren.Die Röhre sitzt im Gehäuse und ist für den Transport mit einer Schaumstoffhülle ummantelt.Ich bin begeistert!

Only right after I ordered this product while drooling over the price did I discover the list of bad ratings and warnings for item damage upon arrival. It just came in today, the last day of the estimated delivery. I set up a video camera by it and recorded me opening the package just in case it was broken, I wanted to return it, and needed evidence. Basically, it's a piece of crap. The bulb was literally broken in half and I dared not to take it out of the little cardboard holder but I could feel it. A lot of the pieces were scattered along the fixture and got on my carpet too. I was really looking forward to using this big fixture for an upcoming party but I don't think I can return and get a replace in time, especially due to their lack of shipping information and speed so I might as well buy another 4ft bulb. So my advice to all, do not buy American Dj products, at least not directly from them. Horrible shipping. Small box, and wasnt fully protected unlike the few other bulbs I got which came in just fine.UPDATE: I requested a return on February 21st for the bulb only. I contacted customer service back and forth for about a week and a half, all they asked for was a serial number of the item for the paperwork and that they would work on shipping out a new bulb. Today, I get a mail from Amazon saying that Astro Sales closed my return request because I WOULDN'T return the item. I had specifically asked for a new bulb replacement because mine came broken in half. They never asked me to return the item. And who wants 2 broken-in-half pieces of a bulb shipped back? Anways like I said, don't buy American DJ products from Astro Sales. I ended up buying the same brand bulb from blacklight.com. Great shipping.

I read the reviews for this product before buying it and was impressed at what people thought. However, considering how cheap it was, I thought people were praising the product based upon its quality for the price. I was wrong.This product is top-notch in quality and probably worth more than the current selling price. The lighting case is your typical black plastic holder that most standard fluorescent or black lights are housed in, so the quality of the housing is par with other similar products. What sets this light apart from others is its brightness and range. I bought it to supplement tubular black light bulbs I was putting into our fish tank to make our new "glowing" fish glow (those new cool genetically engineered zebrafish that glow with firefly genes). I installed the more expensive tubular black lights into the tank and our fish started glowing. Only after admiring the fish did I break out the other black light unit. Wow! Not only was it at least 20x brighter than the expensive tubular black lights, but it lit up the entire room! Everything was glowing!The range is so spectacular in my son's room (12'x17') that one light fixture pretty much lit up the entire room. And because of the cheap cost, I am ordering two more to go in the basement for the kid's parties. This product is absolutely worth the price and works better than the more expensive bulbs (without light-housing). Skip the bulbs and just buy one of these. You will not be disappointed!
