The magnet is kinda bulky and most of the time it wont reach close enough to activate. Guess its for cats with small heads. Just threw money out the window.

Full disclosure: my install was probably easier than most because I used this cat door to replace an existing one. Also, my dad installed it for me. But he did so in about half an hour (including time to grind the door a bit because this door was marginally taller than my old one) and with minimal cursing, which I'll consider a win.The placement of the locks is much better than the door that I replaced. Those locks were raised up in a way that allowed the cats to eventually break them. These locks are flush with the door, so I don't see the cats being able to break these. The included template was handy for checking to see how this door measured up against the old one, and would be even handier if you're starting from scratch and need to cut a hole in your door.I use this in the door between my living room and my basement so the cats can access the litter boxes downstairs without having to leave the door open all the time. The only time I actually use the locks is when a few cats are having a fight and need some time to cool off. Even then, I never have it locked for more than 15 minutes or so. But one thing I noticed with these particular locks, the plastic of the door doesn't completely enclose the piece that sticks up to lock the door. This allows the cats to keep slamming the door and manage to open it if they're really determined. Or if they happen to have an accomplice on the other side of the door, as I generally only lock it in one direction. Oh. Scratch that last part, I just realized that if the door did fully enclose the part that sticks up to lock it, you wouldn't be able to lock it in only one direction. They just outsmart me and help each other out. Regardless, it's very rare that I use the locks, just be aware that unless you lock it both ways, your cat may be able to defeat the lock.I can't say if it's weatherproof since I use it inside, but I think you'd have to be very trusting of the wildlife in your area to use it on an outside door. I would definitely spring for one that only opens for your cat's collar or microchip if you're installing one on an outside door. The last time my cats had free access to go in and out as they pleased, I found a very enterprising opossum in my kitchen at 3:30am, helping itself to my cats' food. That was the end of that, my basement door was closed up for good the very next day! It's only been installed for a month, but this door looks much more sturdy than the one it replaced, so I expect it to outlast that one, which lasted 8 years. Just be aware that if your cats are fast, this door will definitely slam quite loudly. Make sure it's installed somewhere you won't hear it from your bedroom!!

I got this in hopes that my two older cats could eat with out my two kittens taking the food from them but nope the door keeps coming apart and the kittens can go in and out as they please with out the collars on in theory, it would’ve been great. Had it been made better.

It's a little tricky getting the platform set up to the correct height to get the magnet on the collar in the best position to open the door. There's a major difference in the size of our cats - one is very small and one is very tall. We're still training.

I was looking for a cat door that would only allow the cat wearing the collar in AND out. After reading alot of reviews many would only allow the collar wearing in OR out based on how it was locked. I'm happy to say this door works to let only the collar wearer in AND out, if that's your goal, this is the door.

This was pretty quick and easy to install. It works well and my cat started to use it as soon as he woke up from his nap. The price point is reasonable and the lockout function is nice to have of I need to confine him to get him in the carrier for a vet appointment.
