Worked pretty well at first. But after about 4-5 light uses the head phone jack randomly stopped working. Now it’s impossible to find a leak with it. Construction quality is more like something you’d get at the dollar store. Shouldn’t be $50 (cheap for a leak detector) but more like $20.

Was disappointed. Still wasn’t able to hear the low leak. Still chasing a leak on the semi. If it’s a loud leak you can hear with your ear ithe machine picks it up. But not a very low sounding leak. Wouldn’t suggest or buy again,

The first detector I received had the label applied upside down so that all the LEDS were covered up! So much for quality control. I pealed off the label and re-oriented it properly and was able to use it ok. The adhesive was now weak, so I returned it for a new one.The detector worked ok, though I had to learn how to best use it since the settings were somewhat quirky. Once I learned the best setting, I did find the leak I was looking for. Like any tool that senses noise, metal, humidity, etc under/in solid objects, it takes understanding of the limitations and a learning curve to use it effectively.

I purchased this to find leaks in 2 cycle engine when doing a pressure test up to 10 PSI. A leak (at 5 PSI) so big I could feel the air (on my hand )coming out could not be picked up with this device. I also had a very small leak that I found with soap bubbles, it could not pick that one up either even when I pointed the receiver directly at the leak. It is not totally broken It will pick the ultrasonic transmitter up if it is painted semi towards the receiver. I am VERY disappointed, I will be returning it. Sorry I CAN NOT recommend this unit for finding air leaks.

This is being used to test for leaks in diesel fuel tanks. Recently I lent it to a friend who was having a problem with CO getting into the cockpit of his airplane. He was able to use this tool to find the leaks and even used it as he was putting new seals on the doors to make sure the seals were in the proper place.

Not sensitive enough to pick up air leaks around fittings in a compressed air piping system. This was my intended use. The product works if the leak is bigger but by that time I can hear the hissing unaided by ear.

A leak detector is typically quite expensive. Although this one works best with the headphones (the light proved worthless) listening for the change in pace of the beep it was quite effective in finding vacuum leaks in the glass reactors we were working with. Even small leaks, although you need to take care as the detector is very directional. So for the price it is certainly worth a shot. I am glad I gave it one.
