Because the magnet resembles a large washer and can be stick to the top of the filter, they are commonly thrown away during routine maintenance.

The previous owner lost the magnet and when I realized, I immediately purchased this so that it could do its job. Surly it’s helping somewhat. But who knows.

If you take your truck with the Alison transmission to almost any service location to have your filter changed and fluid “flushed”, it’s almost a certainty that they’re not going to pull the magnet off your old filter, clean it, and put it back on your new filter. I went to a Valvoline location years back to have that done and made an emphatic point to the store manager that I WAS PROVIDING THE REPLACEMENT SPIN ON FILTER AND THAT THEY NEEDED TO REMOVE THE MAGNET AND PUT IT ON WITH THE NEW FILTER. The guy insisted that it would be done, and I even followed up with him after the flush was done and he again insisted that it had been done. Well, shock of shocks…I recently did a full fluid flush and internal filter plus external spin on to replace with the latest Transynd 668 fluid and of course there was no magnet on the old filter that replaced it. Sorry…this is a rant…but I just want to tell anyone concerned with this that they should buy these and that they fit perfectly and are cheap insurance against metal shavings entering the internals in your trans.

I stuck the magnet to my arm where I had my metal plate inserted in my humerus bone. It didn't stick, but then I figured out that my surgeoun must have used a stainless steel plate.
