This upgraded version of the aquarium sponge filter utilizes an airlift system for silent operation and outstanding filtering performance while oxygenating the water. The specially developed foam material supports bacterial colonization, while the strategically placed upgraded ceramic filter media in the middle of the sponge filter allows for biological filtration in addition to mechanical filtration, breaking down harmful waste such as ammonia and nitrite materials. Good general use course sponge filter. Works better if you place air stone and tubing, then pour in filter media. Don’t forget to place tubing through the cap first, and make sure cap slides ok. Mine assembled without much trouble. Silicone tubing took a minute, but well worth the effort. Pretty big for a 20 long. Definitely better for taller tanks. Course sponge does not require frequent cleaning, but you may need an additional finer sponge in some tanks.

Works great in my 45 bow front tank as u can see it's crystal clear an its been doing a GREAT job .. ordering 4 more but bigger ones for my 180 gl amd see if I even need the h.o.b an canister filters anymore!

Most of the reviews were about a poor design with top that's hard to remove. Manufacturer has since redesigned the top so it now "Screws" on instead of the two snap in tabs. MUCH EASIER TO USE! Don't hesitate, if you're looking for a good sponge filter that ALSO has Ceramic media this is the best bang for your buck! You can install the air stone @ the top of the ceramic media how it's designed, however I decided to put the air stone @ the bottom of the center column below all the ceramic media which seems to get more water flow through the filter media.

Got it for a ten gallon it’s barley fits even without the plastic clear piece but my fault for not reading the size it worked till I got another but downside is you have to use the media given with the items or somthing else to keep it weighted I also am not a fan of the sponge product it dosnet feel like my others to be honest

2 Large Sponge Filters.Purchased for a planted 28 gallon lowboy aquarium.Works really well eliminated small particles and giving light agitation to the surface. It doesn't disturb plants or suck up fry.2 in the package, with air stones and media and tubing.Does not include air pump.Very good value.
