Needed a stud placed under our foundation to brace a beam that was forgotten by our builder. Instead of messing with a wooden stud and hammering it into place this was a great alternative that was fairly priced, easy to use, and will last much longe.

I like the overall build design and materials however caution is strongly advised when handling the top and bottom plates, and the tubes.Absolutely no attention was given to deburring any of it. The plates were stamped out and the edges are EXTREMELY sharp. As for the tubes they were cut with a chop saw or a power band saw and have very sharp protruding jagged metal debris.Other than the lack of attention to safety during manufacturing I'm quite happy with the overall quality.I'm using this under my home where nobody will come in contact with it but I'll still debur the sharp edges. If you plan to buy the longer ones for use in your basement or attic where people (especially children) will come in contact with them regularly I strongly urge you to use a file or electric grinder to clean up the sharp edges.

This worked well and is well made. I used them for supporting sagging horizontal wood walls in a shallow well pit, so getting everything aligned and then getting the tension on by myself was difficult but possible. (the end plates are not attached to the compression tube or adjustment screw. This means that the tube must be pushed against one end plate, and the other plate held in place while turning the screw to apply pressure). A nail or duct tape to hold the plates in place until the pressure from the jack is applied would make this easier. When the jack is vertical it is easy because the jack is held down on the lower plate by gravity and the top plate can be balanced at the top while the screw is turned to apply the force. The length can be adjusted over a wide range by means of the holes in the tubes and the steel insertion rod.
