Purchased this to try to alleviate compacted soil in my lawn. Pulled it with my riding mower with no problems and the results were good. The soil was still damp from rain a few days prior and I do not suggest using this on a dry lawn. I placed 4 cinder blocks on the weight tray with some artificial turf under the blocks to keep the rattling to a minimum. Do not expect to be in a hurry. Take your time and the results should be good. The plug spikes are quite sharp so be careful. After some use they can be resharpened as needed. The reviews stating the assembly instructions suck are correct. Allot yourself at least half a day to get this thing together. Find a YouTube video if you can, it may help a bit. Also, the previously mentioned plug spikes will go straight through your foot if you aren’t careful; wear some sturdy boots. You can guess how I know this.

Very well built but you need the video to put it together. There are a lot of parts and the video is needed to see how everything is correctly assembled. It will take time if you are not mechanically inclined. The bolt lengths as shown on the directions are determined by measuring the shaft, not the full length including the bolt head. Apparently the tires were upgraded from what was shown in the video but they did provide supplemental directions for how to install them. The tires were not inflated so better have a compressor or pump available before putting the aerator to use. When they say the blades are sharp - believe them! I have two cuts to prove that. The aerator worked well on the lawn and did a good job and nothing came loose or got bent. Just make sure the ground is soft after a rain, otherwise it may bounce all over. Adding extra weight using cinder blocks worked well. Good product and US made.

Great product. Solid and sturdy. Took a while to put together, but here are some things that helped me:1. Open all parts and set them in separate piles. If you want bonus points, use an index card to label each pile.2. Have the required tools set out and handy.3. Go through the book direction (which are not very detailed) with the superb online video on your phone. It does take a while to put together. It was about 3 hours. Also, there was a missing part, but if you go online, you can request a missing part and get it in a few days via the mail. I just went to the store and got the part for like 80¢.As far as performance, it did the job well. I bought some concrete blocks for the back of it that fit perfectly and weighed it down nicely. So glad I bought this!

This unit was delivered early afternoon.I did the unbox and the parts look good. but a couple bags of parts should have alerted me to be prepared.I read the instructions several times. Started working on the blades. Pretty straight forward but wear good leather gloves. I did wear gloves and still got numerous small cuts during the assemble.Assembled the blades and started the pan assembly. This is where I got lost. Went inside and searched for you tube videos. Found quite a few. All I found were decent but none agreed on every thing.Assembled the blade assembly on the pan and it did just not look right. Back to the videos. One person assembly and for the final assembly of this machine you need two people. Helper mostly just helping you balance things.Next morning reviewed instructions and watched more videos.I got the thing assembled but the up and down lever is really a pain. Got wife to help balance that nasty lever and finally got it on. Wheels tho on written instructions were not at all like what actually happened.More video time and I totally discarded the written instructions and went with a video. Got the wheels attached but they did not lift the blades off the ground. Took a look and the wheel assemblies needed to be rotated 180 degrees on the shaft. Did that and after adding air and grease to the tires, the machine is ready for a test drive. I am very tired and will wait to actually use the machine.Bottom line for me at least the parts look really good. The instructions for me at least just not quality. The nuts and bolts were missing a few and added a few. Making sure the small parts are there would get a much higher rating. The diagrams of each nut, bolt, washer and small parts are really a help. Without these diagrams and clear reference to the bolt, nut etc I think most home owners would add hours to the assembly. My suggestion is to add more photos especially more to show you what the final look of each assembly is so you know what you are working toward.I hope the written instructions get a rewrite proofed by a customer not a factory technician and videos by the manufacturer expanded with more images showing what each assembly should look like,Final comment I think the actual machine is going to be at least a 4 maybe a 5.The instructions tho rank closer to zero. Now that I am done with the assembly I realize that many times I had the assembly correct but had to spend lots of time making sure I was correct. This is complicated assembly process. Mess up any assembly and you will mess up more later on. More checkpoint photos would be good step forward I think.

Just use it, did an excellent job, very solid, strongly recommend to view the video on Agri-fab web site for assembling this Aerator, it shows all the parts and all the steps for proper installation, and I can tell you it was an easy installation.

Delivery took a while... However, the quality of the product is very good. The manual was clear and the print was large enough to read and assembly was a snap. This product will not disappoint I heartily recommend it. lo56bird

As others have said, this product works however the assembly is quite difficult and the instructions are poor. Here are some hints/comments from my experience:1) Outside wheel bracket placement - It's important to place these in the opposite direction to the center wheel bracket. I didn't do this and when assembled the knives wouldn't lift off the ground with the handle. The easy fix on this was to change the position on the center bracket.2) Poor welding on wheel brackets - These were not concentric so I used emery cloth to sand down the inside. It was still a tight fit and I had to use a mallet making sure to line up the holes as I knew they would be hard to remove.3) Attaching handle to center wheel bracket - Here's my best advice, use a 3/8" x 1" hex bolt instead of the recommended 3/8" x 1 1/4" recommended for the lower bolt. I just switched it out for one of the 1" bolts used to connect the tongue to the tray. There is not enough clearance for the 1 1/4" bolt.4) Useless 2 bolts with whizlocs - These go on the tray per instructions and do not attach anything. I pondered this for a while and just put them on. They serve no purpose.5) Handle slips out of notch - When moving the device with the knives up, the handle is prone to slipping out of the notch. I use a piece of wood to secure it and that seems to work well.6) Weights on tray - I added two cinder blocks and this really improved performance.Hope these comments are helpful.

Look, this is a great product! Creates nice size plugs and is very easy to use. Gets the job done and will save you money compared to hiring someone to aerate your lawn. First off the bat, assembly takes time but seriously....this isn't hard if you just don't rush. Take 5 min to separate your parts into their respective groups on pieces of paper labeled by part number. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. The instructions list everything you need at each step by part number so organizing things this way makes it dead easy to find what you need. If you're used to building LEGO Technic stuff, you'll know that looking at the ORIENTATION of the parts in the diagram is very important. Again, don't rush and just make sure your set up looks just like the diagram. You won't go wrong. This non-technical chick assembled this herself in 1.5 hrs but if you can get a second pair of hands to help, things will go much quicker. Finally, you don't necessarily need cinder blocks to add weight. Fertilizer bags or sand bags worked great👍Don't let all the negative reviews about assembly dissuade you. No good thing came about without time and effort.
