Pumps use mechanical action to move liquids, gases, or slurries (solids suspended in a liquid or gas). The mechanical action is categorized as either positive displacement (PD) or kinetic. PD pumps capture and release discrete amounts of flow into a chamber and then force it out. Some examples of PD pumps are fuel and oil pumps in cars, pumps in hydraulic systems, and bicycle pumps. Kinetic pumps move liquids, gases, or slurries by transferring energy from the pump's movement to the flow. They use an impeller to draw the flow in, add energy to the flow, and move it through a volute (a spiral funnel through which the flow moves), and into the system. Some examples of kinetic pumps include centrifugal (the most common pump in industrial applications), in-line pumps, sump pumps, and suction pumps. Energy sources for all types of pumps include wind power, manual operation, electricity, and gasoline or diesel fuel.

Action Pump manufactures drum and pail pumps and grease, oil, and lubrication products. The company, founded in 1981, is headquartered in Cary, IL.

this little hand-powered pump works well to pick up water and debris, with a little bit of effort. granted, this is hand-powered, so your fingers and palms will get a workout. but it does do the job. my chore is to pump out the excess water on my patio, which does not drain. the patio accumulates dirt and leaves which can be swept up. but i also need to rinse down the patio as well, and that is where this pump does wonders. it can pick up most of the water, after trimming down the end to be more flush with the ground, and deposits the dirty water into a bucket. all in all, this is a better option than the battery operated pump which clogged.

I actually own several of these for different liquids, but the oldest one is at least 20 years old. They’ve all been flawless.Even so, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this one is actually an improved design, with a clip that secures the dip tube to the suction bulb. Just a Great product. And, the seller was outstanding, the post office actually damaged it when they jammed it into a mailbox. I contacted the seller and they just shipped me another one. I cannot recommend this product and seller more. Very happy

Easy to use. Transfers five gallons in about five minutes. Getting it started is easier if you use both hands to rapidly compress then "re-inflate" the red bulb four to five times. I hardly ever spill a drop of gas. I always put the pump back in the original bag to keep dirt and dust off of it. Seems flimsy upon initial inspection, but I've transferred at least 50 five gallon cans and the valve still functions perfectly. Taken care of, I expect to get years of use out of it.

This siphon pump is great. And it's even better for the price I paid for it which was only a few dollars. It has a self priming system by using the bulb. And you can break the siphon with an air valve on the top. It's deep enough for a five gallon pail. I plan on using it to siphon water out of coolers that don't have drains on them.

OK. I know it isn't exactly normal to get excited about a cheap collection of plastic tubing with an attached hand pump but no one - literally NO ONE - has ever called me "normal."So, I feel no shame in saying I was excited to NOT get gas in my mouth siphoning out the fuel tank of my snow blower in preparation for summer storage. That one use was all I needed to feel as if I got my moneys worth from the purchase (and it will get even better in that regard as I will be using this pump many more times this year for my collection of tools with small fuel tanks in need of emptying). This is cheap and effective. For use on the smaller siphon jobs in your house or garage ... you can't do much better.
