These were supposed to create an 8” block. They do not. They create a 6.5” block. The seam allowances are not added to the template which means you cannot cut with these, only trace and then cut with a scissor after making your own drawn 1/4” seam allowance. Th at means these are not convenient and nearly useless - while they did allow me to make a 6.5” block (if I rotary cut from the templates and then pieced) the corners do not come out accurately because the templates were not designed for that. This is a big waste of money

I’ve wanted to make an actual pieced orange blossom quilt so I was happy to find this template set, and at a very good price. It was cheap enough to take a gamble on an unknown brand.Pros:-acrylic is a good quality and thick. Does not bend or slide around too much.-They’re numbered (A,B,C) so you know which to sew first.Cons:-The printed “8in Finished Block” is definitely not right. After this is cut and sewn together the block is 6.5”.-The “seam allowance” lines printed are curved, but it doesn’t affect the actual seam allowances. Just looks weird on the template.Tips:-Use an extra small rotary cutter when cutting your fabric so you can really follow the curves easier without shaving the edges of the template.-A and B pieces are different sizes. I didn’t try to just use all of one instead of cutting two different sizes, but it’s still pretty easy to cut.-You will have to trim the tails and square up these after you get all three pieces together. I have a 6.5” ruler with a diagonal line that makes it super fast and easy.-When you sew all your blocks together, the corners where the petals all meet together will be very bulky and thick. I found that pressing all my seams open helps instead of pressing to one side like I typically do.-It is super easy to stretch and distort your fabric because you’re working with diagonals and biased cuts, so you have to be super careful to avoid pulling too much while sewing your curves. I found that it really helps to heavily starch before you sew and after your have your rows all together to flatten out some of that wavy bulk.I give this 4 stars for a few reasons:I would have loved to have actual 8” finished blocks, so the listing is inaccurate on that point.Luckily, I had enough fabric to make extra blocks to make up for the missing 1.5 inches to make sure I ended with a queen sized quilt. There were no instructions, so I had to play around with some scraps before I figured out the tricks to getting this to work right.I am guessing that someone who has no actual quilting knowledge made these. They do work, but all the things printed are totally wrong.Would I buy it again, probably. It would be nice if the listing was updated to reflect the actual size of the finished block.

These templates for the melon block are really made for accuracy. They are everything a quilter would want in a good template. I paid less than half for this no name brand over other Name brand ruler/template companies.
