About this item

  • Inch Set (7 PC) : 6#, 8#, 10#, 1/4'', 5/16'', 3/8'', 1/2''
  • High Speed Steel. Straight Shank.
  • Cap screw counterbores are tools that are used to create a recess in a workpiece for the head of a cap screw. You might use a cap screw counterbore when you need to attach a component to your workpiece using cap screws, and the component has a thickness that is greater than the length of the cap screw.
  • Another reason you might use a cap screw counterbore is if you want to create a flush or countersunk appearance for the heads of the cap screws on your workpiece. A cap screw counterbore allows you to create a recess in the workpiece that is sized to fit the head of the cap screw, giving the screw a flush or countersunk appearance.
  • Overall, cap screw counterbores can be useful when you need to attach components to a workpiece using cap screws, or when you want to create a flush or countersunk appearance for the heads of the cap screws on your workpiece.

I think that people who rate this 5 stars are using it for a different operation than I and others intended to use it for. It will work if you are counter boring to accept a socket head cap screw but there is a HUGE caveat to that operation. The pilot on the bit is too large to tap threads the size of the socket head cap screw. S, if you’re using this for through hole that does not need threads then it works. However if you need this to counter bore material to accept a socket head cap screw as well as thread into the material THIS WILL NOT WORK. There are very few situations I can think of where you’d need this tool to counter bore socket head caps screws without having threaded ends and one would be to connect 2 half’s of material together like a pinch bolt system where the top half doesn’t need threads just a counter bore and the second half just needs threads and a hole the screw size. If that makes sense. If you’re trying to use this on one piece of material it will not allow you to tap threads, the pilot is simply way too large and you will not have enough material to tape threads in after. I ended up using a flat end mill to do this operation and it worked perfectly. I returned this item and purchased their end mill set for around the same price and if you’re using these on a milling machine, JUST BUT A SET OF END MILLS!

Needed to make a 3/4” spacer for my lathe's tool post. Using 3/8-16 cap screws to attach the spacer to the compound slide, so needed a counterbore for the cap screws. Decided to buy the set. Was initially concerned about the 8% negative reviews… So glad I ignored them and ordered.. These things arrived well packaged (see photo) and each bore was in its own plastic sleeve (removed by me prior to photo). Not sure why people are b$**hing about the pilot being the wrong size. A 3/8-16 cap screw requires a 13/32” hole as a 3/8” is too snug - and that’s exactly what the 3/8 counterbore has. I’ve only used the 3/8” so far (see photo of spacer), but with some cutting fluid - you guys were using cutting fluid, right? - it cut through the 3/4” cold rolled steel like butter. Second item I’ve bought from the seller and both have been top notch and reasonably priced!

I cant speak to using these counterbore bits in production... however, for the hobbyist and limited production an excellent value for the money.. Over the years I have purchased a number of accusize products, including their QCTP AX.. the quality is good and the value for the money is EXCELLENT.very pleased

The quality seems better than most, but you do need to verify the pilot size with a drill bit gauge before making the pilot hole. I wish this was a 4 flute counterbore. The 3 flute caused additional chatter on my drill press that made the bottom seat not a nice flat surface like it should be - which I think could have been avoided all together with a 4 flute design. Maybe this wouldn't be an issue in an industrial milling machine.

Great quality, sharp as can be...was able to do 38 holes in 3/8 steel plate with the 5/16 size....just used cutting fluid and the proper pilot hole, for the price it definetly exceeded my expectations!

The product itself is of good quality. The reason for the 4-star review is the shipping container. They were shipped in a much too large box without wrapping the high-speed steel counter-bores to prevent them from banging against each other during the shipping process. I was so disappointed when I received them knowing there would be damage to the flutes, but there was not damage to the flutes near the pilot, so they are useable, but still very unprofessional shipping practice. Other than that they are great.

Works great, bits are sharp and effective. I used these on a cast iron cylinder head to do some modifications. Ideally, you want to use these in a drill press. I had to use the #8 counterbore bit in such a way that putting my workpiece in my drill press wasn't practical, so I used a hand drill and a steady hand, and it worked out great. I will say, the wood block for mine did not say "accusize", nor did the bits have accusize engraved on them, so it's possible I received a knockoff? Regardless, the quality was still good. I expect to use these again for more projects.
